ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team cruised to a 13-3 triumph over Sweet Briar College in its regular season finale at the FalconPlex on Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons started quick with six goals in the opening quarter. Junior
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) initiated the scoring followed by back-to-back markers from sophomore
Ellie Terranova (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant). First-year
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) registered the next tally at the 5:41 mark to push the score to 4-0. Cedar Crest got its final two goals of the frame on woman-down opportunities. Junior
Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) found sophomore
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) with 4:33 remaining and then Graham found the back of the net off a helper from senior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) for the 6-0 advantage.
The home team continued its run in the second quarter, netting the first three goals of the frame. Hinkle scored with 10:56 remaining with the assist going to Graham. Sipel registered two straight goals, the first being unassisted while sophomore
Nicole Guzman (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) picked up the helper on the second one. The Vixens stopped the run with a marker by junior Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.), which was assisted by sophomore Liz Carr (Charlottesville, Va.). The Falcons then finished on a 3-1 run to carry a 12-2 lead into the third stanza. Guzman, Graham, and first-year
Jessica Shults (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) were credited with the goals on the run.
The squads traded goals in the third quarter. Terranova capped a hat trick performance with a goal set up by Graham with 7:33 to play. Foster then deposited the last goal of the game and for the Vixens with one second left in the 13-3 final.
Senior
Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) secured the victory in goal for Cedar Crest, making five saves in 30 minutes. First-year
Irelyn Yoder (Wilmington, Del./Concord) played the final 30 minutes in between the pipes and converted three saves.
First-year Lizzie Mehl (Richmond Hill, Ga.) was credited with the loss, recording five saves in 36:52 of game action. Junior Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) played the final 8:08 and allowed one goal.
Graham tallied a game-high six points on three goals and three assists. Terranova added three goals and one assist for four points. Sipel chipped in three points with two goals and one helper. Hinkle and Guzman had one goal and one assist apiece. Demarest, Schrader, and Shults each had a goal.
The Falcons collected 14 ground balls in the game. Sipel tallied five. Junior
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) had two. Graham, Terranova, Demarest, Schrader, Shults, senior
Krystal Sears (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township), and sophomore
Adriana Dias (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) closed the category with one each.
Cedar Crest also had seven caused turnovers. Sipel and junior
Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit) registered two apiece. Graham and Dias tallied one each. The final one was credited to the team.
The Falcons rounded out the box score with six draw controls. Graham had four and Terranova pitched in two.
Cedar Crest outshot Sweet Briar, 27-17.
Cedar Crest (8-4 overall) will now turn its attention to the postseason and will begin play in the United East Conference Championship Tournament at home against No. 5 seed Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday, April 27. Sweet Briar (2-10 overall) returns home to host Trinity Washington University on Monday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m.
