ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team was eliminated from the United East Conference Championship Tournament with a 23-0 loss to No. 1 seed St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday night at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.
The Seahawks scored seven goals in the first quarter and six more in the second to carry a 13-0 lead into the half.
St. Mary's added six in the third frame and four in the fourth for the 23-0 final.
The home team held a 47-8 edge in shots in the contest. First-year
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) had a team-high four, junior
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) had two, while juniors
Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) pitched in one apiece for Cedar Crest.
First-year Allie Greeley (Harve de Grace, Md.) recorded the win in goal for the Seahawks, making one save in 45 minutes. First-year Annie Wise (Canton, Ga.) also played in between the pipes for St. Mary's, registering three saves in 15 minutes of action. Senior
Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) made 16 stops in the setback for the Falcons.
First-year Hope Harrison (Catonsville, Md.) led the Seahawks with five points on four goals and one assist. Nine other St. Mary's student-athletes had multiple points on the night.
The Falcons had five ground balls in the game. Woomer had a pair while sophomore
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) and junior
Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit) turned in one apiece.
Cedar Crest also tallied seven caused turnovers. Sipel chipped in a team-high four while Demarest, Large, and senior
Krystal Sears (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township) each had one.
The Falcons closed out the box score with five draw controls. Senior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) guided the team with three while Graham and Schrader pitched in one.
With the loss, Cedar Crest ends its season with a 9-5 overall record. St. Mary's (10-6 overall) advances to the United East Conference Championship game and will host No. 3 seed Wilson College on Saturday, May 4.
