ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College soccer team dropped its season opener to Colby-Sawyer College by a 4-0 final on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play at the FalconPlex.
The Chargers netted its first goal of the contest in the 40
th minute after senior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) set up sophomore Stella Lavertue (Claremont, N.H.) for her initial goal of the season. Lavertue put the shot off the crossbar and went in to put Colby-Sawyer up 1-0. That score held until halftime.
The visitors tallied three goals in the second half. They got back-to-back markers from O'Connell in the 59
th and 62
nd minutes, respectively, and then first-year Maddy Minckler (Claremont, N.H.) found the back of the net in the 77
th minute off an assist from graduate student Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) for the 4-0 final.
Junior Gabriela Calidonio (Flagler Beach, Fla.) secured the win in goal for Colby-Sawyer, making one save. Junior
Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) recorded a career-high 15 stops in the loss for the Falcons.
The Chargers outshot Cedar Crest, 24-4, and had five corner kicks to the Falcons' zero.

Olivia Kelly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and senior
Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) each had one.
Cedar Crest (0-1-0 overall) continues a three-match homestand against Bryn Mawr College on Saturday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. Colby-Sawyer (1-0-0 overall) will continue its Pennsylvania trip tomorrow, Sunday, September 1 at Moravian University beginning at noon.
