Sabir Scores in Field Hockey's Loss to Bridgewater

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team dropped a non-league contest to Bridgewater College, 7-1, on Saturday at the FalconPlex.

The Eagles netted four goals in the opening quarter. Junior Carynn Klingler (Hanover, Pa.) put Bridgewater on the scoreboard at 1:55. The assist went to sophomore Lexi Francis (Bristow, Va.). Senior Bekah Mercer (Hanover, Va.) then deposited an unassisted tally at 3:42. Senior Daphne Daymude (Bealeton, Va.) made the score 3-0 with a goal at 8:41 off an assist from junior Autumn Just (Ashland, Va.). The final goal of the frame came from the stick of sophomore Olivia Ohleger (Stafford, Va.) at 10:09.

Bridgewater tacked on one in the second quarter when first-year Casey Grell (Powhatan, Va.) found the back of the cage at 27:01.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Eagles added one at 49:04 after senior Emily Tyler (Leesburg, Va.) put a shot home off a pass from first-year Maylynn Watson (Fredericksburg, Va.). The Falcons registered its lone goal of the game at 52:04 when junior Avery Daku (Northampton, Pa./Catasauqua) set up senior Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia E&T) for her first goal of the season. Bridgewater went on to net one more goal when sophomore Olivia DeWan (Leesburg, Va.) scored at 55:54 after being set up by junior Mackenzie Buckley (Fredericksburg, Va.) for the 7-1 final.

Sophomore Ashley Nau (Yorktown, Va.) made two saves in goal in the victory for the Eagles. Sophomore Shelby Heater (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) recorded 15 saves in the loss.

Sophomore Reagan Ferst (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) had another defensive save for the Falcons, bringing her season total to three. 

Bridgewater outshot Cedar Crest 30-3 and had 18 penalty corners to the Falcons' one.

Cedar Crest (2-4 overall) will now embark on a six-game road trip, beginning on at Albright College on Wednesday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. Bridgewater (4-1 overall) will welcome in Gettysburg College for its next game on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
