ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College volleyball team was swept by Moravian University, 3-0, on Wednesday night at Lees Gymnasium.
The Greyhounds won the match by set scores of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-17.
Moravian jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the opening set, spearheaded by a 5-0 run, which finished off with an attack error from the Falcons. Cedar Crest got to within four, 8-4, after scoring back-to-back points, the second being a kill from junior
Alana Connor (Manassas, Va./Charles J. Colgan). The Greyhounds then outscored the Falcons 8-3 over the next 11 points to stretch its margin to nine, 16-7. The Falcons got as close as to within seven, 17-10, but another 7-1 spurt stretched the score to 24-11. Cedar Crest made a late surge scoring four straight points, but a kill by sophomore Molly Hughues (Bath, Pa.) gave Moravian the 25-15 set win.
The Falcons doubled up the Greyhounds, 4-2, in the early going of set number two. After Cedar Crest made it 7-4, Moravian would embark on a 12-0 run to increase its lead to nine, 16-7. The home team trimmed the margin to seven, 17-10, and then the squads traded four-point runs to make the score 21-14. The Greyhounds closed the set on a 4-2 mini run to take the frame, 25-16.
Moravian grabbed a 10-5 advantage in the third set and eventually increased its margin to 10, 16-6. The Falcons would climb back into the stanza, using a late 5-0 run to cut the deficit to seven, 24-17, but the Greyhounds won the next point to take the set, 25-17, and the match in straight sets.
Senior Jenna Deegan (Easton, Pa.) tallied a match-high 17 kills to go along with 11 digs, two service aces, two blocks, and one assist for Moravian. Junior Ally Plitnick (Collegeville, Pa.) dished out a match-high 34 assists. Sophomore Gabbie Reigner (North Wales, Pa.) registered a team-high 14 digs.

Cedar Crest (3-7 overall) will host Penn State Hazleton and Stockton University in a tri-match on Saturday, September 21 starting at 11:00 a.m. Moravian (7-5 overall) will travel to Penn State Berks for a tri-match on Saturday against PSB and Cheyney University beginning at 11:00 a.m.
