WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Lycoming College on Friday afternoon to open its 2024-25 season.
The Warriors won all three doubles matches to capture the doubles point. The Falcons' first doubles pair of sophomore
Grace Huff (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) and first-year
Raury Barnard (Elkton, Md./Northeast) fell to senior Rei Saar (Montoursville, Pa.) and junior Emma Kelchner (Nescopeck, Pa.), 6-1. Senior Sarah Lanphear (Chittenango, N.Y.) and first-year Sadie Stahl (Duboistown, Pa.) defeated senior
Corinne O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and sophomore
Cam Beverage (Taylor, Pa./Riverside) with a score of 6-1 at second doubles. First-year
Gracelynn Pauley (New Oxford, Pa./South Western) and sophomore
Aleice Cherry (Raleigh, N.C./Oscar Smith) lost to juniors Greta Kimble (South Williamsport, Pa.) and Cassandra Conner (Lebanon, Pa.), 6-0, at No. 3 doubles.
Lycoming captured all six singles matches for the sweep. Barnard opened singles play and was defeated by Saar at first singles by 6-0, 6-0 scores. O'Connor was taken down by Kelchner at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-0. Huff fell to Lanphear by a 6-0, 6-3 final score at third singles. Stahl defeated Beverage at the No. 4 spot, 6-0 and 6-0. Kimble got by Pauley at fifth singles by 6-0, 6-0 scores. First-year Reyna Kirick (Mifflinburg, Pa.) defeated Cherry at No. 6 in a 6-0, 6-0 final.
Cedar Crest (0-1 overall) will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Trinity Washington University on Friday, October 11 at 3:00 p.m. Lycoming College (5-1 overall) returns to action on Thursday, October 3 at Kings College (Pa.) starting at 3:00 p.m.
