WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team secured a 3-1 victory over King's College (Pa.) in a non-conference matchup at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday night.
The teams traded goals in the opening stanza. Junior Emma Bealla (Kingston, Pa.) put the Monarchs on the board with a marker at 11:07. The Falcons tied the contest at one with a goal from sophomore
Sydney Jeker (Sciota, Pa./Pleasant Valley) at 13:55. The helper on the goal went to classmate
Carly Piciullo (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial).
Cedar Crest broke the tie in the second quarter as sophomore
Gianna Alton (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) found the back of the cage off an assist from junior
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) at 27:50 to give the Falcons the 2-1 lead.
After a scoreless third period, Cedar Crest added one more from the stick of junior
Avery Daku (Northampton, Pa./Catasauqua) at 50:26 for the 3-1 final.
Sophomore
Shelby Heater (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) made 12 saves in goal in the win for the Falcons. Sophomore Emily Bollinger (Palmerton, Pa.) converted four stops in the setback for King's.
The Monarchs doubled up Cedar Crest in shots, 24-12, and had 19 penalty corners to the Falcons' seven.
Sophomore
Reagan Ferst (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) was credited with the lone defensive save for Cedar Crest on the night.
Cedar Crest (1-2 overall) returns home to play host to Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday, September 7 at 3:00 p.m. King's (0-1 overall) will stay at home and will welcome in Immaculata University for a non-league contest on Saturday at noon.
