Tennis Edged By Penn State Berks on Senior Day

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College tennis team was edged by Penn State Berks in a 4-3 final in a United East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon. It also marked Senior Day for the Falcons as the program honored its three seniors: Grace Nieman (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll), Corinne O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore), and Gracelynn Pauley (New Oxford, Pa./South Western) in a special pre-match ceremony.

Cedar Crest snagged the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches. The second doubles team of sophomore Grace Huff (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) and Nieman blanked sophomore Lannie Beck (Bernville, Pa.) and first-year Eliana Koehler (Bangor, Pa.), 6-0. Sophomore Cam Beverage (Taylor, Pa./Riverside) and Pauley captured the win at third doubles by forfeit. The first doubles tandem of first-year Raury Barnard (Elkton, Md./Northeast) and O'Connor were defeated by first-years Mia Aharonoff (Sunnyvale, Calif.) and Hester Xie (Guang Zhou, China), 6-3.

In singles play, Aharonoff took down Barnard the No. 1 spot, 6-2 and 6-1. Koehler recorded a 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 triumph over Nieman at second singles. Beck got by O'Connor 6-0 and 6-1 at the No. 3 slot. Huff topped Xie by scores of 6-2, 6-4 at fourth singles to earn a point for Cedar Crest. Pauley was defeated by senior Jules Lesher (Muhlenberg, Pa.) by identical 6-3, 6-3 scores at No. 5. Beverage secured the victory at sixth singles by forfeit.

Cedar Crest (2-8 overall, 2-6 United East) concludes the regular season with a home match against Kean University on Monday, April 21 at 3:30 p.m. Penn State Berks (4-7 overall, 3-5 United East) will now await the announcement of the postseason pairings to determine its next match.
