Soccer Falls to Penn State Altoona in Season Opener

ALTOONA, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College soccer team was defeated 3-0 by Penn State Altoona in its season opener at Spring Run Stadium on Saturday.

The first half saw Falcons' senior Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) making multiple crucial saves, including stops against shots by Jordan Yaletsko and Kira Knox. Despite this defensive effort, the Lions took an early lead with a goal by Ivory MoDavis, followed by a second goal from Bridget Martin, both assisted by Kira Trexler. Cedar Crest's attempts to equalize included shots from first-years Laila Stevenson (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) and Amiyah Carroll (Severn, Md./Old Mill Senior), but both were saved by Mya Torres, leaving Cedar Crest trailing 2-0 at the end of the half.

In the second half, the Falcons' defense, led by Bozen, held firm with multiple saves, including key stops against the Lions' offensive attempts. Stevenson provided offensive pressure with more shots, though both were saved by the opposition. Despite Cedar Crest's defensive efforts, Penn State Altoona managed to break through with a goal by Trexler, concluding the half with a score of 3-0 in favor of the home team.

Bozen made a significant impact for the Falcons with 10 saves. Stevenson led the offensive effort with four shots, all of which were on goal. Carroll contributed to the attack with two shots, both on target.

Trexler contributed significantly for the Lions, scoring one goal and assisting on two others, while attempting four shots and placing one on target. MoDavis secured the game-winning goal, converting her single shot on target. Martin also found the back of the net, scoring with her sole shot on goal. In defense, Torres recorded a shutout with five saves, stopping all five shots faced. Yaletsko was active offensively, leading the team with five shots, three of which were on goal.

The next challenge for Cedar Crest (0-1-0 overall) keeps them on the road where they will face Bryn Mawr College on Wednesday, September 3. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
