Volleyball Swept By Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College volleyball team was swept by Arcadia University Arcadia University in straight sets, 25-13, 25-16, 25-21, on Wednesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The first set saw the Falcons start with determination, as junior Tianlly Davila (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Governor Thomas Johnson) recorded back-to-back points with an attack error and a service ace, narrowing the gap. Despite this effort, the Knights maintained control, widening their lead through strategic plays, including a series of successful kills by sophomore Julia Archelle (Houston, Texas) and service aces. Cedar Crest first-year Jasmine Beck (Allentown, Pa./Building 21) managed a kill late in the set, but Arcadia continued their momentum, closing the set with a 25-13 advantage.

The second set began with the Knights taking control early, pushing the score with sophomore Devon Young (Westampton, N.J.) and senior Hannah Fryer (Lutherville, Md.) contributing significant points and aces. The Falcons responded with a resilient streak led by Davila, who provided crucial setups for senior Ellise Everett's (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) multiple kills, closing the gap. Despite a late surge from Beck and Everett, Arcadia maintained their lead, finishing the set, with sophomore Bryana Saenz (Garfield, N.J.) orchestrating key plays for their team.

The third set began with Cedar Crest making a strong push as Davila delivered two consecutive service aces, propelling a comeback to tie the score. The Falcons maintained momentum with Everett and first-year Kayla Duenkel's (Central Square, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) key block, but the Knights responded with a series of strategic plays, including a decisive kill from Archelle to regain the lead. Despite a late effort from Beck with a service ace, Arcadia capitalized on errors and clinched the set.

Everett led the Falcons with six kills on 14 attempts, contributing seven points overall. Davila recorded four service aces while adding 11 assists and eight digs in three sets. Beck posted six kills and seven digs, finishing with a team-high 7.5 points. First-year Phoebe Pietila (Hayesville, N.C./Hayesville) contributed defensively with eight digs and added two assists across three games.

Fryer was a standout in serving, recording four aces with only one error over three games, contributing significantly to Arcadia's performance from the service line. Saenz excelled in setting, delivering 23 assists without a single error, and added three service aces. Archelle led the team in kills, amassing 11 with a .500 hitting percentage, while also contributing defensively with seven digs.
