IMMACULATA, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College soccer team was topped by Immaculata University in a 3-0 final at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The first half began with a strong defensive performance by senior
Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township), who made multiple key saves for the Falcons, including stopping shots from senior Gabby Palladino (Blackwood, N.J.) and junior Mia Perrone (Sicklersville, N.J.) in the opening minutes. Despite the defensive efforts, the Mighty Macs broke through with goals by sophomore Addison Yackel (Maple Shade, N.J.) in the 31st and 35th minutes, assisted by junior Sam Terry (Levittown, Pa.) and first-year Gracie Repici (Cape May Court House, N.J.), respectively, giving them a 2-0 lead at halftime. Lizzy DeNunzio (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) in the 29th minute, but it was saved by senior Emily Guthier (Sewell, N.J.), leaving the visitors trailing as they headed into the break.
The second half commenced with the Falcons demonstrating resilience as senior
Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) initiated their offensive efforts with a shot at the 64:53 mark. First-year
Amiyah Carroll (Severn, Md./Old Mill Senior) followed closely with a shot on target in the 68th minute, which was saved by Guthier. Despite Cedar Crest's attempts to break through, Immaculata capitalized in the 76th minute with a goal from first-year Brooke Kakowski (Delran, N.J.), assisted by Repici, solidifying their lead. The Falcons' defense remained steadfast, highlighted by Bozen's crucial save in the final moments, but the half concluded with Immaculata maintaining a 3-0 advantage.
Bozen made an impressive 10 saves in goal for Cedar Crest, facing 19 shots. DeNunzio contributed with one shot on goal. Carroll added pressure with two shots, one of which was on target. First-year
Laila Stevenson (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) attempted one shot in the game, continuing to push the attack forward.
Yackel was a standout for the Mighty Macs, scoring two goals, including the game-winner. Kakowski contributed with a goal from her midfield position, adding to her season total. Repici provided key playmaking with two assists, leading the team in this category. In goal, Guthier secured the victory with two saves and a clean sheet, facing five shots throughout the match.
Cedar Crest (0-3-0 overall) will now head home to host John Jay College on Wednesday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m. in its home opener. Immaculata (1-0-1 overall) remains home to play host to Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
