ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team secured a decisive victory over Bryn Mawr College with a final score of 19–6 at the FalconPlex on Wednesday night. The Falcons' offense was led by nine unassisted goals, while the defense forced 33 turnovers.
Cedar Crest began the first quarter with a strong start as senior
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) secured the draw control and quickly converted a goal at 14:28. After an equalizer from the Owls, the Falcons' defense focused on regaining possession, with senior
Ellie Terranova (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant) notably causing a turnover that led to a ground ball pickup. Junior
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) capitalized on this regained momentum with a goal at 7:45, assisted by first-year
Taylor Dotter (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area).
Shortly after, sophomore
Lizzy DeNunzio (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) extended the Cedar Crest lead with a successful free position shot at 7:05. The Falcons maintained control, with first-year
Audra Leiter (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) adding another goal at 5:12. Despite a free position goal by Bryn Mawr's sophomore Maeve DeLisle (Newburyport, Mass.), the Falcons responded with Demarest scoring again at 2:35. Cedar Crest closed the quarter maintaining a 5–3 advantage.
The Falcons opened the second quarter with a strong offensive showing. Demarest scored at 12:09, assisted by Schrader, which was quickly followed by an unassisted goal from first-year
Trinity Burk (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco High School & Center for the Arts), extending the lead. The Owls responded with a goal by DeLisle from a free position, but the Falcons' offense continued to press, with Demarest scoring again, assisted by Schrader, to maintain the advantage.
Dotter further strengthened the Cedar Crest position with a goal at 7:50, again assisted by Schrader. Despite a free position goal by Bryn Mawr's sophomore Elliott Bishop (Mount Juliet, Tenn.), the Falcons' defense held firm, preventing further scoring opportunities for the visitors. The stanza concluded with Cedar Crest leading 9–5, maintaining a comfortable margin.
The Falcons began the third quarter by overcoming an early turnover, quickly regaining momentum with a player-down goal from Demarest, assisted by Schrader. Demarest's scoring prowess continued as she netted another goal shortly after, pushing Cedar Crest further ahead.
Following a timeout by the Falcons, Terranova scored with an assist from Demarest, reinforcing the team's lead. Despite Bryn Mawr's attempt to close the gap with a free position goal, Cedar Crest responded effectively. Demarest added another goal from a free position shot, and Dotter scored shortly after.
The Falcons secured control through draw controls and defensive stops, culminating in a final goal by Demarest with assistance from Terranova. The quarter concluded with Cedar Crest holding a commanding 15–6 lead.
Cedar Crest started the fourth quarter with a goal from Terranova, assisted by Schrader, at 14:23, setting the tone for a strong finish. Dotter secured the draw control, maintaining possession for the Falcons. Despite a turnover that followed, the Falcons' defense quickly regained control, and Terranova added another goal at 7:13.
Continued defensive efforts by Cedar Crest led to turnovers by Bryn Mawr, allowing Demarest to capitalize on a free position shot at 3:50. The Falcons extended its lead with another goal by Demarest, assisted by Leonardi, with just 43 seconds remaining. Cedar Crest closed the quarter on top with a 19–6 victory.
Demarest led Cedar Crest with 10 goals and one assist, converting all 12 of her shots on goal. Terranova contributed with three goals and one assist, taking seven shots and putting six on goal. Burk scored the game-winning goal, finding the net on her only shot attempt. Schrader added value to the offense with one goal and five assists, effectively distributing the ball throughout the contest.
DeLisle emerged as a key player for Bryn Mawr, leading the team with three goals from five shots, all of which were on target. DeLisle also scored three free-position goals, demonstrating effectiveness under pressure. First-year Addy Hansen (Reno, Nev.) contributed significantly with two goals from two shots, maintaining a perfect shooting percentage. Bishop added depth to the scoring with one goal, recording five shots with two on goal.
Cedar Crest (5-2 overall) will next travel to face the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m. Bryn Mawr (1-3 overall) will be on the road to face Immaculata University on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
