ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team defeated Mount Aloysius College with a decisive 12–4 victory at the FalconPlex on Saturday. The Falcons' offense was bolstered by two player-up goals and a strong fourth-quarter performance where they scored six goals.
The first quarter opened with Cedar Crest gaining initial possession through a draw control by senior
Ellie Terranova (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant). Despite an early wide shot by junior
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area), the Falcons experienced a series of turnovers, allowing the Mounties to capitalize. The first goal of the match was scored by first-year Chelsea Stout for Mount Aloysius after a turnover.
Cedar Crest responded with focus, as Schrader scored with an assist from Terranova, leveling the score. However, the Mounties regained momentum with a late goal from junior Cassidy Cook. The first quarter concluded with the Falcons trailing 2–1.
Cedar Crest opened the second quarter with momentum as Terranova scored at 13:35, bringing the score to 3–2 in favor of Mount Aloysius. The team faced a defensive challenge shortly after, but sophomore
Izzy Feddor (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) secured a key save on a shot by junior Isabella Panichelle, maintaining the close score.
The Mounties briefly regained control, scoring a player-up goal by Stout at 5:35 to extend their lead to 3–2. However, the Falcons responded with determination. Senior
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) equalized at 1:08 with a crucial goal and added another player-up goal with just one second left in the quarter, assisted by Terranova. This last-minute effort closed the quarter with Cedar Crest leading 4–3.
The third quarter began with a pivotal draw control by Terranova, setting the stage for the Falcons to press forward offensively. First-year
Trinity Burk (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco High School & Center for the Arts) capitalized on a turnover, scoring early in the quarter to extend the Cedar Crest lead. This momentum was maintained as Demarest, assisted by junior
Jessica Shults (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp), found the net again, further solidifying the Falcons' advantage.
The Cedar Crest defense was crucial throughout the quarter, with multiple caused turnovers by players such as junior
Carly Piciullo (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) and senior
Olivia Moyer (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas), thwarting Mt. Aloysius' attempts to close the gap. Despite several clear attempts by the Mounties, the Falcons effectively disrupted their plays, maintaining a solid defensive stand. The quarter closed with the Falcons holding a 6–3 lead.
Cedar Crest began the fourth quarter with a significant momentum shift. Demarest quickly turned a turnover into a goal at 14:23, igniting the home team's offensive surge. Shortly after, Demarest scored again with an assist from sophomore
Angelina Plut (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional), extending the lead.
Demarest continued her impactful performance, securing another goal at 11:40, which was followed by a crucial draw control. First-year
Taylor Dotter (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) added to the Falcons' tally at 6:41, further solidifying the lead. Despite a goal from the Mounties, Cedar Crest maintained control, as Demarest scored once more with an assist from Terranova during a player-up opportunity, closing the quarter strong with a 12–4 advantage.
Demarest led the Falcons with eight goals on ten shots, converting nine of them into shots on goal, and reaching the 100th career goal milestone. Burk contributed a crucial game-winning goal, with one of her three shots finding the net. Feddor anchored the defense by making 13 saves, allowing only four goals on 20 shots faced. Terranova added to the team's offense with one goal and three assists, playing a key role in the scoring dynamics.
Stout led Mount Aloysius with two goals, one of which was a player-up goal, demonstrating her scoring efficiency by converting both of her shot attempts. Senior Shelby Smeal also contributed to the team's offense with one goal, coming from four shots, one of which was on a player-up. Cook was notable for her accuracy, scoring once and recording five shots, all on target. First-year Keira Murray , in the goalkeeper position, faced 29 shots and made seven saves, despite allowing 12 goals. Junior Brenna Dobson stood out in playmaking, leading the team with two assists.
Looking ahead, Cedar Crest (6-4 overall) will host Purchase College on Monday, March 30 at 5:00 p.m. Mount Aloysius College (2-4-1 overall) will host Hilbert College on Saturday April 4th at 1:00 p.m.
