ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College softball team delivered a commanding performance in a doubleheader against York College (N.Y.), winning the first game 25–4 and following it up with a 21–0 shutout in the second game on Saturday at Cynthia L. Blaschak Field. The Falcons' offense was relentless, amassing an impressive total of 23 hits in the first game and 12 hits in the second, while their pitching staff combined to hold the Cardinals to just two hits across both contests.
Game One – Cedar Crest 25, York College (N.Y.) 4 (Five Innings)
In the first game, Cedar Crest's offense exploded in the first inning, scoring 16 runs. Senior
Natalie Hasert (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) and junior
Kate Gronkowski (Hanover Township, Pa./Hanover Area Junior Senior) initiated the scoring with singles, setting the stage for sophomore
Abby Adams (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland), sophomore
Kylie Mastillo (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono), and senior
Laney Ferraro (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundations Charter), who each contributed RBI. The lineup capitalized on York's defensive errors, with timely hits from junior
Brooke Trentler (Whiteford, Md./North Harford) and sophomore
Taylor Lawrence (Bethel, Pa./Tulpehocken) extending the lead to 16–2 by the end of the first inning.
The Falcons continued to add to their score with six runs in the third inning, highlighted by Adams' double and a triple from Mastillo, leaving them ahead 22–2. In the fourth inning, three more runs were added, concluding the game after five innings with a final score of 25–4.
Sophomore
Alexis Acevedo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) secured the win in the first game, allowing eight hits and four earned runs while striking out three.
Game Two – Cedar Crest 21, York College (N.Y.) 0 (Five Innings)
The second game saw Cedar Crest maintain its offensive momentum, starting strong with ten runs in the first inning. The Falcons capitalized on the Cardinals' errors, with Hasert reaching base on an error and later scoring. First-year
Madacyn Snyder's (Wind Gap, Pa./Pen Argyl) RBI single contributed to the surge, and Cedar Crest finished the first inning with a 10–0 lead.
The Falcons added six more runs in the second, led by a double from Mastillo and continued pressure through walks and hits. Cedar Crest kept the pressure on, scoring three unearned runs in the third and finishing strong with two more in the fourth, resulting in a final score of 21–0.
Individually for the Falcons, Hasert was a standout in the first game, recording four hits and crossing the plate three times, while Adams contributed three hits and three RBI. Mastillo matched her effort, driving in four runs and collecting four hits. Lawrence also had a significant impact with three hits and four RBI. In the second game, Snyder led the offensive charge with four runs, three hits, and three RBI, while Mastillo added three runs and two RBI. Sophomore
Erin Gray's (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) pitching was stellar in the second game, allowing no runs and striking out six over five innings, improving her record to 9-5.
Cedar Crest (14-10 overall) stays home to host Neumann University in a non-league doubleheader on Monday, April 13 starting at 4:30 p.m. York College (N.Y.) (0-9 overall) returns home and will welcome in Sarah Lawrence College for a non-conference twinbill on Monday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
