Softball Secures Split With NDMU on Senior Day

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College softball team split a doubleheader against Notre Dame of Maryland University on Friday night, winning the first game 3–2 in 10 innings and then suffering a 12–1 loss in the nightcap on Senior Day.

In between games, the Falcons honored its four seniors Taylor Faw (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie), Natalie Hasert (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township), Mackenzie Pickard (Levittown, Pa./Philadelphia Academy Charter), and Laney Ferraro (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundations Charter) in a special ceremony.

Game One – Cedar Crest 3, Notre Dame of Maryland 2 (10 Innings)

The Gators opened the scoring when junior Anabelle Hafner (Dundalk, Md.) crossed home plate on a single by sophomore Claire Smith (Manchester, Md.).

Hasert responded with a single and an eventual run, tying the game in the seventh after reaching on a thrown error.

In the tenth inning, Hasert advanced and scored the game-winning run on a single by sophomore Kylie Mastillo (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono), securing the victory for Cedar Crest, 3–2.

Hasert led the offense for Falcons with three hits and two RBIs, while sophomore Erin Gray (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs and striking out two over 10 innings. Junior Kate Gronkowski (Hanover Township, Pa./Hanover Area Junior Senior) contributed with two runs and a stolen base.

For Notre Dame, junior Malorie Gogel (Baltimore, Md.) threw an impressive nine and two-thirds innings but took the loss. Junior Julianna Leatherwood (Towson, Md.) stood out with one hit, one run, and three walks, while Hafner added a hit and a run.

Game Two – Notre Dame of Maryland 12, Cedar Crest 1

The Gators took an early lead with a first-inning single from Smith that brought in Hafner. Hasert walked but couldn't score, leaving NDMU ahead 1–0.

The Gators extended their lead in the third inning with a triple from junior Raegan Perkes (Laurel, Md.), adding two unearned runs. Cedar Crest managed to get on the scoreboard in the fourth when Gronkowski scored, but NDMU responded with multiple runs, including a four-run surge in the final inning.

The Falcons' last chance saw Ferraro reach third base but she was left stranded, finishing the game at 12–1.

Ferraro led Cedar Crest with two hits, including a double, while Mastillo also contributed with two hits and a stolen base. Sophomore Alexis Acevedo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) threw a complete game, allowing 12 runs and striking out three, but was charged with the loss.

For the Gators, Perkes excelled both at the plate and in the circle, securing the win with a complete game performance, allowing just one earned run. Hafner and Smith also made significant offensive contributions, with Hafner scoring two runs and Smith driving in two RBI.

Cedar Crest (16-20 overall, 6-10 United East) has clinched a spot in the upcoming United East Conference Championship Tournament and awaits the release of the tournament field later this weekend for its next matchup. Notre Dame of Maryland (10-18 overall, 6-9 United East) concludes the regular season with a single game at Gallaudet University on Sunday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m.
