ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College field hockey team defeated Albright College, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the FalconPlex.

The Falcons turned the first quarter into a 2-0 lead, with first-year Eva Borsuk (Effort, Pa./Moravian Academy) scoring at 8:50 off senior Sydney Jeker's (Sciota, Pa./Pleasant Valley) assist and first-year Ava Hendricks (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) adding a goal at 12:26 from classmate Carli Apgar (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area). Senior Shelby Heater (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) kept the Lions off the board with five saves, including three in the opening three minutes.

Cedar Crest generated the main chances in a scoreless second quarter, earning two penalty corners from senior Courtney Gibbons (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and getting four shots from Hendricks, three of which were saved by first-year Delena Dunkelberger (Catawissa, Pa.). Albright produced three late shots, but Heater saved sophomore Bobbie Van Oordt (Amsterdam, Netherlands)'s attempt, and the stanza ended with the scoreboard showing the Falcons ahead 2-0.

Cedar Crest kept the Lions off the scoreboard in the third quarter, with Heater making four saves during a scoreless 15 minutes. Albright generated five penalty corners and six shots, including two saved attempts in the closing seconds, but the Falcons entered the fourth quarter ahead 2-0.

Cedar Crest responded to the Lions' early fourth-quarter goal with a penalty-corner sequence, as Hendricks had a shot blocked before Gibbons scored off Jeker's assist at 49:55 for a 3-1 lead. Heater made several saves as Albright pressed in the quarter, and the Falcons finished off the 3-2 win after first-year Aniek Oostendorp (Utrecht, Netherlands)'s late goal.

Borsuk led the Falcons with an early goal and put two of her three shots on goal. Hendricks added a goal and led the Falcons with six shots, including four on goal. Jeker recorded two assists. Heater finished with 15 saves over 60 minutes.

Oostendorp scored twice on six shots, putting five on goal. Van Oordt finished with a team-high seven shots and matched Oostendorp with five on goal. Senior McKena Cox (Sinking Spring, Pa.) added four shots, including three on goal.

Cedar Crest (2-2 overall) remains home to host Lycoming College on Saturday, September 19, at 3:00 p.m. Albright (1-4 overall) will travel to Madison, New Jersey to play FDU-Florham on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
