MADISON, N.J. — The Cedar Crest College volleyball team lost to Drew University, 3-0, in a non-conference match on Tuesday night at Baldwin Gym.
The Falcons could not sustain enough scoring runs in the first set as the Rangers took the set 25-14. Sophomore
Kayla Duenkel (Central Square, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) and first-year
Kylie Heffner (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) each put down multiple kills with first-year
Autumn Clewell (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) assisting, and first-year
Taylor Friel (Nazareth, Pa/Nazareth Area) added a kill and a service ace during the Cedar Crest late scoring push.
In the second set, the Falcons could not string together enough scoring stretches as Drew took it 25-15. Heffner supplied two kills, while Duenkel and sophomore
Samantha Fitzpatrick (Royse City, Texas/Community) also added kills and Cedar Crest picked up block points from Heffner and Duenkel and Friel and first-year
Gabby Manygoats (Bloomfield, N.M./Navajo Preparatory School) combinations. The Rangers closed the set on consecutive points, ending it with a service ace.
After Drew claimed the first eight points of the third set, the Falcons had to play from an early deficit. Cedar Crest put together a late four-point response that included a kill from junior
Jemma Cazabon (Charleston, S.C./Philip Simmons), a Manygoats service ace, and a Duenkel kill, but the Rangers finished the set 25-17.
Duenkel shared the Falcons' lead with five kills, hit .500 and added two block assists. Heffner also recorded five kills and added one block assist. Clewell finished with 11 assists and six digs. Sophomore
Phoebe Pietila (Hayesville, N.C./Hayesville) collected a team-high nine digs and added one assist.
Senior Victoria Latino (Mine Hill, N.J.) led Drew with 12 kills and 15.5 points, hitting .611 while adding three aces and eight digs. First-year Aaliyah Anderson finished with six kills, hit .364, and recorded three total blocks, including one solo block. First-year Hailey Kenefick (Drexel Hill, Pa.) distributed a team-high 10 assists and added four digs. First-year Jessica Donnelly added five kills on a .308 hitting percentage with three block assists.
Cedar Crest (0-4 overall) hosts Albright College (11:00 a.m.) and Lehman College (3:00 p.m.) in a tri-match on Saturday, September 12. Drew (1-4 overall) next faces Albright College on the road on Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m.
