Volleyball Travels to Marywood for Tri-Match

Scranton, PA

Playing in just one Colonial States Athletic Conference game so far this season, the Cedar Crest College Volleyball team took to the road for a tri-match this morning.  The Falcons would first match up with CSAC rival Marywood University in match one.

Despite coming out strong and finishing with a better score then what they started with, would drop to Marywood in three sets (25-9, 25-13, 25-15).  For the Falcons, Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) led all Falcons on the striking with seven kills while Kiersten Collins (Forest City, PA/Forest City Regional) and Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) would add three and two respectivley.  Four Falcons finished with at least one assist while Celina Danish (Allentown, PA/Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts) would lead the Falcons in match one with five assists in the three sets.

As a team the Falcons finished with 13 kills and 12 assists.

In match two after dropping a very close set one 25-20 to Wilkes University the Falcons would storm back to win set two 25-23.  "We played really well against WIlkes" said Head Coach Marie Polzella "Sometimes the ball just doesn't fall your way".  The Falcons would drop another very close set three in 25-18 and would fit tooth and nail for set four and with the score tied 22-22, saw a chance at going to five sets for the second time this season slip away as Wilkes would grab a hard fought 25-22 win to claim match two 3-1.

For the Falcons senior Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) led the team in kills with nine, while Collins would finish with eight and Clayton would collect six more.  As a team the Falcons finished with 31 kills and 22 total assists.

The Falcons now sit at 1-12 overall and 1-1 in the CSAC and will host Baptist Bible on October 1st which will also be a Cedar Crest College Spirit Day game.  Game time is set for 7 pm.
