Langhorne, PA
The Cedar Crest Falcons and Cairn Highlanders were originally scheduled to play their Colonial States Athletic Conference softball game in Allentown earlier this month, but due to the recent cold spring weather, the Falcons and Highlanders found themselves playing that game this afternoon at Cairn University.
In game one, the Highlanders would take and an early 3-2 lead and would hold the Falcons at bay until the bottom of the seventh. Â
In the bottom of the seventh,
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) would open up the inning with a triple, out hustling Highlander throws to each base. Â Fellow Freshman and fellow west coaster
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) would then single up the middle scoring the tying the game at 3-3. Â Sophomore
Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would then hit into a 6-4-3 double play and game one looked to be going into extra innings. Â But the Falcons would not go away quietly as
Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS) would keep the inning going with a two out single. Â Sophomore
Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) would then follow suite and single up the middle to put runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs. Â After a passed ball and an
Alicia Zook (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville High School ) walk the Falcons would have the bases loaded with two outs and
Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) would come to bat. Â Going into that at-bat, Stump was just 1 for 3. Â But Stump would bring the Falcons home with a game winning RBI single scoring Jones from third.
Pitching in game one,
Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would go the distance allowing just three runs on six hits while striking out three. Â Baxter would also just allow two earned runs in her seven innings.Â
In game two the Falcons and Highlanders offense would continue to roll as the two teams would both total two runs in the first inning. Â In the home half of the third inning,
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) would put the Falcons on the board in a big way with a deep Homerun to left for her second of the year. Â
Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS) would then triple home
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) and
Alicia Zook (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville High School ) would sac bunt Jones home for the 5th run of the game. Â
The Falcons would then add another run in both the fourth and sixth inning before putting the Highlanders away in the seventh for their second win of the day.
Pitching in game two, Martinez would pitch 4.1 innings giving up just two earned runs while Baxter would finish off the last 2.2 innings in perfect fashion for her 1st save of the season.
The Falcons now sit at 3-7 overall and 2-0 in the CSAC and will travel to the University of Valley Forge on Monday in Phoenixville, PA.
