Falcons Win Game One, Drop Extra Inning Game Two

Baltimore, MD

Looking to get back on track in conference play, the Cedar Crest College Softball team took to the road to battle the Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators.

In game one the Falcons bats came alive early and often as they would score six runs in the first two innings alone.  Taking a 6-1 lead into the top of the fourth, the Falcons would put up a six spot thanks in large part to the Falcons pairing singles together.  The Falcons would hold that 12-1 score until the 5th when the Gators would put one more run across the plate.  The Falcons would collect the final out and take game one by the score of 12-2.

Individually for the Falcons four players would collect multiple hits including Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) and Kayle Martinez who each had a double and single, while Alicia Zook (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville High School ) added two singles and Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) who would add a single and her first home run of the season.  Lane would also add two RBI's to pair with her homerun.  Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) would finish the day with three RBI's to lead the team with three.  Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central High School), Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) and Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) would add singles for the Falcons in the win.

On the mound, April Daly (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross High School) went the distance for the Falcons giving up just seven hits and two runs while striking out five.  Daly would also walk just one Gator player in five innings.

In game two the Falcons once again got on the board first with two runs early in the third.  After the two teams battled back and forth the Gators and Falcons would play to a 3-3 tie and would head to extra innings for the first time all season.

Both teams would play a scoreless before the Falcons came to bat in the top of the 8th.  Just as their last double-header sweep, Kayle Martinez got the Falcons started off with a deep double to put a runner in scoring position.  After Martinez stole third Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) would single Martinez home for the Falcons fourth run of the game.  After Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) popped out, Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) would advance Schnaubelt to second with a fielder's-choice to the pitcher.  Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would then send the Falcons second double of the inning, scoring Schnaubelt from second for the Falcons fifth run of the game.  Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS) would send deep fly ball to center for the third out of the innings.

The Falcons would then send Daly onto the mound to close out the Falcons fourth win of the year, but the Gator would have other plans in mind as they would collect three runs in the bottom of the 8th to take a 6-5 win over the Falcons.

Individually for the Falcons in game two, Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) and Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would each collect multiple hits while Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) and Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) would each add an extra base hit.  Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) would add a single to close of the offense for the Falcons.

On the mound Amanda Kustabaunter would pitch the first 6.1 innings allowing just three runs, two of which were earned while striking out five.  Daly would come in for the final 1.1 innings and allow two hits and three runs, none of which were earned while stirking out one.

The Falcons now sit at 3-10 overall and 3-3 in the CSAC.  The Falcons will travel to Rosemont today with game time set to begin at 1 pm.
