Falcons Drop Pair to Immaculata

Allentown, PA

The Cedar Crest College Softball team entered Wednesday afternoon in a serious playoff hunt and would welcome fellow Colonial States Athletic Conference team Immaculata to the Cynthia L Blaschak Field Wednesday afternoon.  Entering today, the Falcons sat just above the Mighty Macs in the most recent CSAC Softball standings.  The Falcons sitting in 6th with a 5-3 conference record, while the Mighty Macs in 7th with a 7-5 conference record.

In game one, the Falcons bats came out hot, as Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS) would put the Falcons on the board early in the first inning with a single that would score centerfield Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) and advance Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) to third.  Then Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) would come up and single home Martinez for the Falcons second run of the game, Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) would round out the scoring in the first for the Falcons as she would score Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS), on a fielder's choice ground out to the short-stop.  The score would stay 3-0 in favor of the Falcons until the 3rd when Immaculata would put two across to cut the Falcons lead to just one.  The Mighty Macs would add another in the fourth and then take the lead in the fifth placing three more on the board and taking a 6-3 lead.  But in the bottom of the fifth, the Falcons would strike back as Schnaubelt would single home another run, Acosta would triple scoring Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) and Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central High School) and would then eventually score herself on a Martinez single in the bottom of the sixth.  Looking to close out the game with a 7-6 lead, pitcher Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) would run into a strong Immaculata team and surrender six runs in the top of the seventh that the Falcons were not able to respond to.

The final in game one would go Immaculata's way as they would top Cedar Crest 12-7.

In game two, once again the Falcons would once again strike first as Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) would score on a Kustanbauter double in the top of the first.  Immaculata wouldn't have an answer for game two starter April Daly (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross High School) until the top of the third when a passed ball and fielding error would allow the Macs to score two runs.  The Falcons would add another in the bottom of the third as once again Acosta would cross the plate on a Schnaubelt double tying the score at 2-2.  But the Macs would double themselves up, putting up a four spot in the top of the fourth to take a 6-2 lead and they would add another in the 5th before the Falcons would answer on a Fielders-Choice and Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) double cutting the score to 7-4.

The very next inning would be the final of the game as darkness would roll in.  Led by a Bartow homer, the Macs would plate four more runs before it was all said and done in game two.  The Falcons wouldn't go quietly as Acosta would score on a throwing error and Martinez would advance on a Sac-Fly, but the two runs would be the end for Cedar Crest.

With the loss, the Falcons now sit at 5-5 in the CSAC and will welcome CSAC rival Keystone on the 17th, with a start time set for 3:30 PM.
