Falcons Drop Pair to Giants

Allentown, PA

Looking to turn their luck around in recent CSAC play, the Cedar Crest College Falcons Softball team welcomed Keystone College to the Cynthia L Blaschak Field on Friday evening.

Game one saw the Giants jump out to a quick 5-0 lead, thanks in large part to a Bucklaw home run with two runners on base.  The Falcons would however respond with two runs of their own as Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) would be the first Falcon runner to cross the plate Friday, scoring on a Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) fly ball to center field and then shortstop standout Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) would score the Falcons second run of the inning on a Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) double.

The Giants would respond with three more in the third as they would put across runs due to extra base hits.  But once again, the Falcons would respond as Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) would come across the plate on a throwing error by the Giants catcher as she was stealing third base.

With the score now 8-3 in favor of the Giants the Falcons had some work to do.  They would look to none other than Martinez who would send her team leading third home run of the season over the left field fence for the Falcons fourth run of the game.  After junior Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS) would double to deep center field, she would advance on a fielder's choice ground out by Schnaubelt.  Sophomore Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would come up and follow suite of Jones, sending another deep double to center, plating Jones from third easily.

That would be the end of scoring for the Falcons as they would drop game one 9-6.

In game two, the Falcons would hit early and often, scoring six runs in the first three innings and taking a 6-3 lead into the top of the fourth.  Freshman pitcher Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) would hold the Giants at bay as the Falcons would come to bat in the bottom of the inning.

Kustanbauter would single to left field to put the first runner on for the inning,  After a Baxter single, Kustanbauter would advance to second.  After a Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) fly out, sophomore Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) would walk to load the bases.  With two outs, transfer Olivia Lopez (Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park High School) would come up and plate both Kustanbauter and Baxter with a 2 RBI double.  With an 8-3 lead, the win seemed within reach for the Falcons until the top of the 5th.

The Giants would break out the big bats, as Emily Long would connect on a three run home run and untimely errors and a wild pitch would allow the Giants to plate five.

The Falcons would respond in the bottom half of the inning, collecting two runs of their own, led by Martinez and Schnaubelt who would both score of a Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) double to deep center field.  After those two runs, the Falcons would be held at bay, despite putting several runners in scoring position.

The Giants would top the Falcons in game two 11-10.

The Falcons now sit at 5-7 in the CSAC and 6-14 overall.  The Falcons will travel to Marywood for another CSAC doubleheader before going back to back with Centenary on Sunday the 19th.
