The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team completed their 2015 Colonial States Athletic Conference schedule on Monday afternoon in Hackettstown, NJ playing host Centenary College.
The Falcons jumped all over the Cyclones early in the contest as
Vivianna Samite (Oakridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp) would strike just 17 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal to open up the scoring. After a Cyclone goal, Samite would once again strike again collecting her second goal just 80 seconds after her first. After her second goal, Samite would spread the wealth as
Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen High School) and
Kim Barry (Greentown, PA/Wallenpaupack Area) would each collect a goal less than 30 seconds apart and put the Falcons in the lead at 4-2 six minutes into the game.
The Cyclones would strike back and score a trio of goals led by Abby Voelkner who would collect her 35
th and 36
th goals of the year 23 seconds apart from each other. Trailing by one, the Falcons looked to their leading scorer to bring them back as
Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen High School) would collect another unassisted goal and tie the game at 5-5 with twenty one minutes remaining in the first half.
The Cyclones Voelkner would score twice more before Rodenberger and Samite went back to back to tie the game at 7-7.Â
Kim Barry (Greentown, PA/Wallenpaupack Area) would score off a
Jessica Thompkins (Bethlehem, PA/Lehigh Valley Academy) assist and Rodenberger would dish to Samite for her fourth goal of the first half. Then the Cyclones offense would kick into high gear and score five unanswered goals before Samite would bring the Falcons back to within one at 12-11. After two more Centenary goals, first year lacrosse player and soccer standout
Caitlyn Mann (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) would score her first career goal brining the Falcons total to 12 first half goals.
The second half would see the Falcons fall behind 15-12 before Rodenberger would score the first Falcon goal of the second half. After three more Centenary goals,
Vivianna Samite (Oakridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp) would score a trio of goals herself and bring the Falcons back to once again trailing by just two at 18-16.Â
Voelkner would collect her 44
th goal of the year before Rodenberger would score her second of the half and
Kim Barry (Greentown, PA/Wallenpaupack Area) would score two goals within 45 seconds of each other.Â
To close out the game,
Vivianna Samite (Oakridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp) would score her 10
th and 11
th goals of the game and tie the game at 21-21 with just 2:27 left on the clock. The Cyclones would press the Falcon defense and score two goals inside the final two minutes to take a 23-21 lead and with 30 second
Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen High School) would score to put the Falcons down by just one.Â
Despite their best efforts the Falcons were unable to mount a full come back and would drop their CSAC finale 23-22. With the loss the Falcons now sit at 1-12 overall and 1-8 in the CSAC and will wrap up the 2015 season at the College of St. Elizabeth on Tuesday the 21
st with game time set for 4 pm.Â
