Falcons Sweep Defenders

Clarks Summit, PA

The Cedar Crest College Softball team looked to keep their season alive as they traveled to Clarks Summit to take on the Defenders.

In game one it was all Falcons.  The Falcons would open up the first half as Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) would send a shot to deep left center for a RBI double scoring lead off Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School).  The very next batter in Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) would single up the middle, scoring both Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central High School) and Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) to put the Falcons up 3-0 early in the first inning.

Cedar Crest wouldn't wait very long to score again, in the top of the second inning, the Falcons would put a double steal in motion with Martinez headed to second and Gallagher towards home plate.  The Falcons would execute it to perfection and score Gallagher from third.

In the third inning the Falcons would put two more runs on the board thanks to Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) scoring Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) from third and advancing Olivia Lopez (Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park High School) to third on a groundout to the pitcher.  That pitcher would then throw one past the catcher and Lopez would score from third on the passed ball.

Leading 6-0, the Falcons entered the top of the fourth looking to close out the win.  With Martinez and Gallagher looking to score again, Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) would step in.  Schnaubelt would then connect on a three run bomb collecting 3 RBI's and putting the Falcons up 9-0.

Pitcher Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) would then close out with a scoreless fourth inning and the Falcons would collect the win in game one.

In game two Acosta would once again score the games first run stealing home and putting the Falcons up 1-0.  The teams would play a scoreless second before the Falcons would add more to the scoreboard in the third.  Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) would collect an infield single scoring Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley).  Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) would climb in and with a single up the middle she would single home both Kustanbauter and Schnaubelt putting the Falcons up 4-0 in the third.

Despite allowing three runs in the bottom of the third the Falcons would enter the fourth still leading 4-3.  The Defenders would then add three more runs and take their first lead of the day at 6-4.  The Falcons would then respond in a big way scoring four runs in the top half of the fifth and retaking the lead at 8-6.

The Defenders would score one more in the bottom of the fifth before the Falcons would score two more in the top of the sixth and would close out the game with the score going the Falcons way at 10-7.

With the sweep the Falcons improve to 9-17 overall and 8-10 in the CSAC.  With the two wins, the Falcons also leap over Keystone to take sole possession of seventh place in the CSAC softball standings with two more double headers to play against Cabrini on 4/24 and Gwynedd on 4/25.
