Allentown, PA
Christine Lombardo-Zaun has said all season that her team plays to the level of their competition. Â Friday evening was no different as the Falcons hosted the Cabrini Cavaliers in the second to last CSAC home contest of the 2015 season for the team.
In game one, the Falcons would fall behind quickly 8-0 after two innings, but claw back with two runs in the third thanks to
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City)'s two RBI double to right field. Â The Cavs would hit right back with a three run home run to Center that outfielder
Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) just missed leaping in an attempt to steal a shot from the Cavs.
The Falcons would play a scoreless fourth and hold the Cavs at bay in the 5th before getting on the board again with Schnaubelt leading the way once again. Â This time with a two RBI single to center scoring
Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS) and
Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central High School) and advancing
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) to second. Â Second basemen
Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) would climb in and reaching on a fielder's choice score Martinez from third for the Falcons fifth run of the game.
The Falcons would drop game one after seven innings 11-5.
In game two, the Falcons did exactly what Zaun had been asking for all day, to play to the level of their competition. Â After a scoreless first, the Falcons would strike on a Jones single to right scoring
Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs). Â Then on an infield single from Acosta, pitcher
Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) would score the games second run.
The Cavs would chip one run away thanks to an infield error but the Falcons would come back in a big way. Â With Molly Schnabuelt on base,
Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would take the Cavs deep for her first home run of the year. Â At the end of three the Falcons hung on to a 4-1 lead. Â
The Cavs would add another in the fourth and two more in the fifth and would hold the Falcons at bay for the remainder of the 5th, 6th and 7th innings.
The Falcons did have their chances however and would leave 13 runners on base through out game two.
In the top of the eighth, on a line drive, the defense would commit just their second error of the game, costing the Falcons the "W" on game two.
The Falcons will wrap up the 2015 season tomorrow when they host CSAC rival Gwynedd-Mercy. Â Game time is scheduled to start with game one at noon.Â
