Falcons Sweep Non-Conference University of Valley Forge

PHONEXVILLE, Pa.--- The Cedar Crest College softball team swept non-conference University of Valley Forge in their first contest back after spring training, taking the first game 12-1 and game two of the double header 29-3 on Thursday evening.

Sophomore shortstop Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) hit a home run to start the game giving the Falcons a quick lead. At the end of the first inning Cedar Crest would have a 2-0 lead. In the second inning sophomore outfielder Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ) would hit an RBI single and advancing another runner to third. Freshman third basemen Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) hit an RBI single as well to take a 4-0 lead. The Falcons scored another run in the third inning as junior infielder Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) rallied with two outs to hit a double while freshman outfielder Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) followed up with a double scoring Lane.

Martinez hit a double to begin the fourth inning and freshman outfielder Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) would single to advance her to third. Sarboukh hit another RBI single as sophomore catcher Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) hit an RBI single herself for another run. The Falcons went up 8-0 with a fielding error before the end of the inning. Gallagher started the top of the fifth with a single and would be scored off another home run by Martinez. Sarboukh would hit an RBI triple and two more runs score on errors for a final score of 13-1.

Game two started with a double for Maritnez, who would later advance to third on a wild pitch. Reading was walked before Sarboukh tripled to score two runs. Schnaubelt singled scoring Sarboukh, junior first basemen Olivia Lopez (Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park ) singled scoring Schnaubelt to take a 4-0 lead after the first inning. The second inning started with a single by Gallagher who was driven in on another Martinez homer. Reading singled and would later advance to third and score off a single by Sarboukh. Schnaubelt doubled and moved to third on a sac fly that also scored a run. An error scored two runs while as Martinez doubled on the next at bat. Reading hit a two run RBI single and later Schnaubelt doubled for two more runs. With bases loaded freshman outfielders Brianna DeLany (), Bonser and Cassidy Barrett (/Northern Lehigh) all hit RBI singles to take an 18-0 lead in the second inning.

With bases loaded in the third inning DeLany hit a single for two RBIs the Falcons had three more runs cross the plate due to errors while Sarboukh and Schnaubelt doubled knocking in three more runs. Freshman Nicole Ortiz-Siffel (/Southern Lehigh), Lopez, and DeLany all hit RBI singles and Bonser would single for the last hit of the inning for the final runs of the game.

Freshman pitcher Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) earned the win from the circle, pitching five innings, allowing two hits, one walk and 10 strikeouts in game one while sophomore pitcher April Daly (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross ) went five innings, allowing four hits, one walk and three strike outs for the win.

The next game for the Falcons is on Saturday, March 19 with the first game of the double header starting at 1:00 p.m. at Lehman College.
