Softball Takes Two From Non-Conference Lehman

BRONX, N.Y.--- The Cedar Crest College softball team has improved to 8-6 on the season giving the team a winning record for the first time since 2012 and is now on a four game winning streak after taking two games from non-conference Lehman College by scores of 18-1 and 19-1 respectively on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons jumped on the scoreboard right away as sophomore shortstop Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) got on by an error that advanced her to third. Next batter, freshman outfielder Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) laid down a bunt that earned her an RBI single. After stealing two bases Reading would be scored on a double to center field by sophomore first basemen Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City). Junior catcher Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) hit a single to center field for another run taking 3-0 lead.

Sophomore outfielder Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ) singled to third to start the second inning while an error put runners on second and third. A sacrifice fly to center field scored a run but a runner was caught on the play. Freshman third basemen Amiee Sarboukh bunted for a single as Schnaubelt singled up the middle. A single through the right side by freshman designated hitter Nicole Oritz-Siffel singled through the right side for an RBI. Freshman pitcher Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) doubled to left center for an RBI and Stump followed up with a double to right center for two RBIs for a lead of 8-0.

Martinez doubled to right field and stole third before scoring on the next batter. Schnaubelt hit a two run homer to left field. Stump loaded the bases with a single for freshman outfielder Brittney Bonser who walked. Gallagher singled for the next run and Martinez would hit another double to left center for two more runs for a lead of 15-0.
The Falcons scored three more unanswered runs in the fourth by errors and another run was score when bases were loaded in the top of the fifth that allowed a final run as Lehman had one run score in the fifth for a final of 19-1.

Game two started with an early Falcon lead, as Reading singled to right field and advanced on a throwing error and scored on a passed ball. Otiz-Siffel grounded out but not before scoring a run before ending the inning. Junior second basemen Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) was walked, then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch and was brought home by freshman outfielder Kristen Herpel who grounded out to the second basemen. Martinez hit another two run home run to make the score 5-1. With bases loaded Martinez would hit a grand slam over the left field fence to give the Falcons a 10-1 lead in the bottom of the third.

Sarboukh singled to right field as Schnaublet followed up with an RBI single and a hit by Ortiz-Siffel scored another run to make it 12-1 heading into the bottom of the third. Herpel singled up the middle to being the top of the fourth as Martinez hit a single to third base. An error on the next two plays advanced two more runs making it 14-1 in the fourth. Top of the fifth saw junior first basemen Olivia Lopez (Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park ) singled through the right side as Lane hit a single to center on the next at bat. Freshman outfielder Brianna DeLany () hit an RBI single to center field while Martinez would take another pitch deep to left for a three run home run her eighth homerun of the year for a final score of 18-1.

The next game for the Falcons is on Tuesday, March 29 for a double header starting at 3:00  p.m. at Delaware Valley University
