Softball Splits With Non-Conference Delaware Valley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College softball team split a pair of games with non-conference Delaware Valley University winning the first game 8-3 before falling 3-0 with a late rally by the home team.

In game one, freshman outfielder Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) and sophomore first basemen Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Sophomore shortstop Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) started the game with a single up the middle and a single to left center by Reading advanced her to second. Freshman third basemen Amiee Sarboukh hit an RBI single to right center. A routine groundball advanced the runners to score another run.
Freshman designated player Nicole Ortiz-Siffel (/Southern Lehigh) hit an RBI single as freshman outfielder Kristin Herpel (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) hit an RBI single up the middle to take a 4-0 lead after the first inning.

Martinez hit a double to center field on the 2-0 pitch to start the second inning and would score off a bunt by Reading due to an error. Junior catcher Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) singled to second base for an RBI making the score 6-0 in the second inning.

With a runner on third, Martinez reached first on an error advancing her to second while scoring the run for a 7-0 lead at the top of the third. With a runner on first, freshman pitcher Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) would hit a double to left field to score another insurance run to as the Falcons would win game one 8-3.

The second game had a total of seven hits, the Falcons coming away with three of them as Ortiz-Siffel went 2-for-3. Two of the three hits came in the fifth inning but the runners were left on base. Del Val didn't score until late in the sixth inning when they took a 3-0 for the win.

The Falcons return to action tomorrow as they travel to non-conference Susquehanna University for a pair of games with the first pitch being thrown at 3:00 p.m.
