ALLENTOWN, Pa.--- The Cedar Crest College softball team swept Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Centenary College (NJ) by scores of 8-0 and 7-4 on Friday afternoon.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead with freshman outfielder
Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) making the most on an error reaching first, to steal second. She would later move to third on a single by sophomore outfielder
Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) and a throwing error advanced the run for a 1-0 lead after the first inning. Bottom of the second, with one runner on junior catcher
Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) singled to center field. With two runners on again
Reading doubled to center field for an RBI.
Acosta hit an RBI single while sophomore shortstop
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) doubled to take the lead 5-0.
The Black and Yellow added three more runs one in the fifth and one to secure the win ending in the game in the sixth inning by the run rule.
Martinez singled with a finely placed bunt and advanced to second on the throw and later stole third. Freshman third basemen
Amiee Sarboukh singled through the left side for the 6-0 lead. Freshman designated player
Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) started the final inning when she reached first on an error and would be moved to third on a double by sophomore outfielder
Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ).
Acosta hit a sac Fly to right field for an RBI and
Gallagher was quick on the bases and advanced home on a passed ball to end the game 8-0.
In game two, the Falcons battled back every inning to earn themselves a sweep in today's competition. The visiting Cyclones had a 2-0 lead after the first inning, Reading doubled to right field to the inning, Acosta singled moving the runner to third. Martinez grounded out to third with a sacrifice bunt to score the lone run of the inning.
Bottom of the fourth, down 4-1 Cedar Crest chipped away to take the lead.

Sarboukh singled to load the bases for freshman first basemen
Nicole Ortiz-Siffel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) to single through the left side for one run. The next run was scored on a passed ball. Junior second basemen
Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) tripled to deep right field to clear the bases taking the lead 6-4.
The bottom of the fifth,
Martinez singled to left center,
Schnaubelt doubled to score the run to take the final score of 7-4. The Falcons held the Cyclones off for two more innings to improve to 18-14 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
Freshman pitcher
Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) pitched 8.1 innings with five strikeouts, while sophomore
April Daly (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross ) pitched 4.2 innings with four strikeouts.
Next up, the Falcons travel to Keystone College for another CSAC match up with the double header slated to being at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.
