Volleyball Goes Undefeated in Tri-Matches

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Cedar Crest College volleyball team went undefeated this weekend in their matches. After winning their tri-match on Friday, Cedar Crest competed in another tri-match on Saturday afternoon against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn and the College of Staten Island. The Falcons won their first match against St. Joseph's in three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-20. Cedar Crest finished their day with a win over the College of Staten Island in four sets by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-10 and 25-22.

In the first set against the St. Joseph's College Bears, the Falcons went on a nine point rally, capitalizing off of Bear errors and adding kills from senior Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City), freshman Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), freshman Kailey Elrod (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area), sophomore Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) and sophomore Steph Barr (Unionville, CT/Sport and Medical Sciences Academy), making the score 14-3. The Bears answered with scoring points of their own before the Falcons added three more kills from one from freshman Devyn Crowder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and two from Hill. Cedar Crest scored the 24th point off of a block from Hill and Schnaubelt. The final point was earned by Hill, off of a kill, ending the set 25-13.

The Falcons jumped to an early 7-2 lead in the second set against the Bears, taking advantage of their errors. Cedar Crest tallied three kills in a row from freshman Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph), Elrod and Crowder, lifting the score to 13-5. Crowder and Schnaubelt added one kill a piece with Hill adding two to the board for the Falcons. The 25th point was scored by Crowder, giving the Falcons the win 25-14. 

While the Bears took an early lead in the third set of the first match, the Falcons answered by scoring four points in a row to tie the set 15-15. The Falcons and Bears went point-for-point until Cedar Crest jumped ahead to 24-19 off of four kills in a row from Podgurski, Crowder, Elrod and Barr. Elrod scored the last point off of a kill.

In the second match of the day, Hill lead the attack with 13 kills and three blocks. Barr had team highs in both assists with 20 and digs with 17. Hoppes added eight services aces, 12 digs and three assists. Barr had team highs in both assists with 20 and digs with 17. Crowder added 15 assists, 13 digs, five services aces and two blocks. 

The Falcons take on CSAC-foe Neumann University on October 5 at home. The match is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
