Volleyball splits Day 1 of quad-match, falling to Moravian and defeating PSU-Wilkes

MEDIA, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Volleyball team opened Day one of the quad-match being hosted by Penn. St-Brandywine, with a 1-3 loss to Moravian College and then a 3-0 win over Penn. St-Wilkes Barre Saturday afternoon.
 
Cedar Crest is 11-4 overall after Day 1 and remains 3-0 in conference action.
 
In Game 1, the Falcons were able to take one set from the Greyhounds, but ultimately fell 1-3: 18-25, 23-25, 25-21 and 19-25. Throughout the four sets, Cedar Crest had 50 kills, 44 assists, 70 digs and seven blocks. Leading the team with 17 kills was freshman Britney Rivera (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive), followed by junior Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) who added 15 kills and team-high five blocks. Freshman Talia Watson (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) contributed 28 assists with freshman Madison Flatt (Reinholds, Pa./Cocauco) adding 15 helpers. Three Falcons were in double-figures in digs, sophomores Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) with 20, Kailey Elrod (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area) with 16 and Devyn Crowder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) adding 10.
 
Cedar Crest claimed Game 2 in straight sets, 3-0: 25-4, 25-9 and 25-16. The Black and Yellow earned 35 kills, 15 service aces, 29 assists and 20 digs. Rivera led the team once again in kills with 12 and Watson recorded 23 assists, which was also a team-high. Sophomore Maddy McGowan and Watson each contributed five digs with freshman Taylor Shirey (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) had four.
 
The Volleyball squad will return to action on Sunday, October 7 for Day 2 of the quad-match at Penn. St-Brandywine when the Falcons go up against the host and Pratt Institute beginning at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
