MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Cedar Crest College Volleyball team improves to 11-8 on the season and 5-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) after defeating the College of Saint Elizabeth on Tuesday evening.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead, with an eight-point rally to push the lead to 19-7, before claiming the first set 25-12. The second set went back and forth with the Falcons and Eagles exchanging multiple rallies, but the Black and Yellow would come out on top and win set two 25-21. The third set was predominantly in favor of Cedar Crest, as they would claim the final set, 25-13, to post the 3-0 victory.
Cedar Crest led the match in each statistical category, earning 52 points, 39 digs, 36 kills, 32 assists, 12 services aces and four blocks. The Black and Yellow posted a hitting percentage of .291 in the match, with their best set coming in the second set, where they hit .324 with 16 kills.
Sophomore outside hitter Britney River reached double-digits to lead the Falcons in kills with 11, followed by freshmen middle hitter
Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) with seven and outside hitter
Kayla Yasso (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) with six.
Yasso would also lead the squad with four service aces in the match and
Schouppe would take the top spot in blocks, as she recorded three. Sophomore libero
Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) contributed 16 digs for a team-high, with sophomore setter
Madison Flatt (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) earning nine digs and led Cedar Crest with 24 assists. Junior middle blocker
Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) recorded six digs and four assists in the victory.
Cedar Crest will be back in action on Saturday, October 19 when they honor their seniors,
Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) and
Jannelle Mohney (Elkton, Mary./Rising Sun), on Senior Day. The Falcons will host Bryn Athyn College in a CSAC contest set to begin at 1 PM and is scheduled to be streamed live on Facebook Live.
In attempts to raise money for survivors of domestic violence this October, Cedar Crest College Volleyball is asking for donations in order to support the Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and our team will be fundraising all month. We will be collecting both monetary and requested items donations at the entrance during all home games that will be going to the Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley.
