ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Volleyball team moved to (6-0) in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play and (12-8) overall after their 3-0 victory over Bryn Athyn College on Saturday afternoon.
Cedar Crest honored their two graduating seniors prior to the start of the game:
Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) and
Jannelle Mohney (Elkton, Mary./Rising Sun).
The Falcons claimed the first set 25-20 after jumping out to a big lead, but thesecond set was predominantly in favor of Cedar Crest, as they would take it, 25-13. The third set went back and forth with the Falcons and Lions exchanging multiple rallies, but the Black and Yellow would come out on top and win 25-23 and sweep the match, 3-0.
Cedar Crest led the match in each statistical category, earning 56 points, 42 kills, 39 assists, 36 digs, eight services aces and six blocks. The Black and Yellow posted a hitting percentage of .422 in the match, with their best set coming in the second set, where they hit .545 with 12 kills and only one error.
Two Falcons were in double-figures for kills, sophomore
Britney Rivera (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) and freshman Kayla each recorded 10 kills in the match. Senior
Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) also downed seven attacks for kills while leading the team in blocks with four. Senior
Jannelle Mohney (Elkton, Mary./Rising Sun) and junior
Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) each contributed three service aces in the win, followed by sophomore
Madison Flatt (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) with two.
Hoppes also led the squad with 12 digs as
Flatt was credited for a team-high 32 assists. Freshman
Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and
Flatt also recorded one block each in the victory.
Cedar Crest will return to Lees Gymnasium for their next contest, when they host Wilson College in CSAC action on Wednesday, October 23. The match is slated for 7:00 PM.
In attempts to raise money for survivors of domestic violence this October, Cedar Crest College Volleyball is asking for donations in order to support the Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and our team will be fundraising all month. We will be collecting both monetary and requested items donations at the entrance during all home games that will be going to the Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley.
