Falcons suffer first conference loss of season on the road at Notre Dame (Md.)

BALTIMORE, Md. --- The Cedar Crest College Volleyball team suffered their first loss in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon, as the Falcons were swept in straight sets by the defending CSAC Champions, Notre Dame of Maryland University.
 
The first set was a close affair, as the Gators and Falcons exchanged points, but Notre Dame would edge the Black and Yellow, 24-26 in the first set. At one point in the second set, Cedar Crest possessed a lead of a couple points, but play continued to go back-and-forth, putting the Falcons up 9-8 before the Gators put together a rally of six-straight points to put the score at 9-14. The Falcons would pull within two points, 16-18, but Notre Dame would pull away and claim the second set 19-25. To start the third set, Cedar Crest would tally two points before the Gators strung together six-straight points. The Black and Yellow would cut into the lead to get the score to 8-11, but Notre Dame would counter and not look back, taking the third and final set 25-13.
 
The Falcons would score a total of 28 points in the match off of 23 kill, 20 assists, four blocks and a service ace. Cedar Crest would also record 40 digs in the contest, compared to Notre Dame's 50.
 
Sophomore Madison Flatt (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) would be a leader in three different statistical categories and earned a double-double, as she tallied 13 assists, 10 digs and two blocks. Junior Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) was also in double-digits in digs, co-leading with 10 and added four assists. Flatt was one of three Falcons to record two blocks, the other two were freshmen Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and Aliyah Rhoden (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton). Leading the Black and Yellow with seven kills was freshman Kayla Yasso (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood), followed by sophomore Britney River with six and Rhoden downed four attacks for kills. Senior Jannelle Mohney (Elkton, Mary./Rising Sun) recorded the only service ace in the match.
 
The Falcons will have a full week before they conclude the regular season with a road contest at Rosemont College. The first serve of the match will take place at 12:00 PM in Alumnae Hall.
