Volleyball earns road-victory over Keystone in CSAC Opener

LA PLUME, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Volleyball team took down Keystone College on the road, claiming their first win in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Thursday evening.
 
The Falcons defeated the Giants for the first time since 2012 and did so in three sets, (25-15, 25-12 and 25-15). The Black and Yellow improve to 7-8 overall and earn their first win in conference play, now 1-0.
 
Cedar Crest led in every statistical category, scoring 56 points, 41 kills, 37 digs, 35 assists, eight service aces and seven total blocks in the match. The Falcons would post a .333 hitting percentage, with their best hitting percentage came in set 2, where they recorded 14 kills with just one error, for a .464 hitting percentage.
 
Senior Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) and freshman Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) were the co-leaders in kills tonight, each tallying eight kills, while junior Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) downed seven attacks for kills. Podgurski and Schouppe would earn four blocks apiece in the match, followed by sophomore Madison Flatt (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico), who blocked two attacks. Flatt was also the leader for assists, contributing 31 helpers. Junior Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and Flatt both recorded three service aces to lead the team, as Hoppes was the lone Falcon in double-figures with 19 digs.
 
The Falcons will host their first CSAC match of the season, when they welcome Centenary University to Lees Gymnasium on Saturday, October 5. The Volleyball program will also be hosting their Domestic Violence Awareness game, so wear purple. More information on the event is below.
 
In attempts to raise money for survivors of domestic violence this October, Cedar Crest College Volleyball is asking for donations in order to support the Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and our team will be fundraising all month. We will be collecting both monetary and requested items donations at the entrance during all home games that will be going to the Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley.
