Volleyball defeats Centenary 3-0 in CSAC Home Opener

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Volleyball squad defeated Centenary University in straight sets, 3-0 to earn the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) victory on their Domestic Violence Awareness Day on Saturday morning.
 
Today, the Cedar Crest College Volleyball team wore purple uniforms in their efforts of raising awareness of domestic violence. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and our team will be fundraising all month.
 
The Falcons took down the Cyclones and did so in three sets, (25-11, 25-13 and 25-9). The Black and Yellow improve to 8-8 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
 
Cedar Crest led in every statistical category, scoring 57 points, 38 kills, 38 digs, 31 assists, 16 service aces and three total blocks in the match. The Falcons would post a .453 hitting percentage, achieving .400+ hitting percentage in each set. Their best hitting percentage came in third set, where they recorded 14 kills with just one error for a .500 hitting percentage.
 
Senior Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) led the squad in kills with 14 in the match, with junior Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) downing nine attacks for kills in the win. Leading the Falcons in assists was the sophomore setter Madison Flatt (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico), who recorded 29 assists. Senior Jannelle Mohney (Elkton, Mary./Rising Sun) would tally five aces and a team-high nine digs in the match, followed by junior Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), who recorded four services and six digs. Freshman Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg), Hill, and Flatt would each be credited with a block each to total the three blocks.
 
The Falcons will return home on Wednesday, October 9 when they host Clarks Summit University in CSAC action. The match is set for 7:00 PM in Lees Gymnasium, More information on the event is below.
 
In attempts to raise money for survivors of domestic violence this October, Cedar Crest College Volleyball is asking for donations in order to support the Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and our team will be fundraising all month. We will be collecting both monetary and requested items donations at the entrance during all home games that will be going to the Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley.
