Volleyball falls in 4 sets to Notre Dame in the CSAC Championship Game

BALTIMORE, Md. --- The Cedar Crest College Volleyball program fell to Notre Dame of Maryland University, 3-1, in the 2019 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Volleyball Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons conclude their season with a final record of 15-10 to end the 2019 campaign.
 
In the first set, Cedar Crest jumped out to a 4-1 lead, then traded points and multiple ties, at 10-10, before the Gators took the lead for good, taking the first set, 25-21. The Black and Yellow would then claim set two after earning, on three separate occasions, four-point rallies to lift them to tie the match at 1-1. Cedar Crest would start the set with the lead, ballooning to five points, before the Gators rallied for eight-straight points to take a 2-1 lead, 19-25.
 
The Falcons would again take an early lead, but Notre Dame posted nine-consecutive points, to take a 6-11 lead. Cedar Crest battled back and cut the lead to just three points, 15-18, but the Gators pulled away to win the set 19-25 and captured the CSAC Volleyball title, 3-1.
 
Cedar Crest totaled 45 points in the match, coming off of 34 kills, 32 assists, six blocks, and five service aces and recorded 53 digs. Freshman Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) led the Falcons in kills with eight and added two blocks in the match. Senior Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) and sophomore Britney Rivera (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) each downed seven attacks each, with Hill also led the squad with four blocks.

Both junior Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and sophomore Talia Watson (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) reached double-digits in digs, with Hoppes finishing with 14 digs and three assists as Watson contributed 12 digs and seven assists. Sophomore Madison Flatt (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) recorded a team-high 19 assists and lead the squad with four service aces.
 
Cedar Crest's season may not be over, as they await to hear if they will receive a bid to play in the Eastern College Athlete Conference (ECAC) Tournament. Stay tuned to all things Cedar Crest for more information in the next couple of days.
