ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College volleyball team earned two sweeps on Saturday, downing Cairn University 3-0 to finish off an undefeated conference schedule while also winning 3-0 over Marywood University on Saturday at Lees Gymnasium on Senior Day.
Cedar Crest, now 18-5 overall (9-0 CSAC), earned the match one win over the Highlanders. The Falcons won 25-14, 25-16, and 25-16. Cedar Crest had 42 kills, 40 assists, 77 digs, nine service aces and four blocks. Leading the team with 13 kills was sophomore
Maddison Minyo (Covington, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield), who also had 12 digs for a double-double. Classmate
Ava Grapsy (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) registered a triple-double of 11 kills, 14 assists, and 13 digs. Senior
Talia Watson (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) contributed 18 assists to pace the Falcons. Two other Falcons were in double-figures in digs: graduate student
Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) with 23 along with sophomore
Rebekka Sanchez-Castro (Laurel, Md./Atholton) with 11.
Cedar Crest claimed the win over the Pacers in straight sets, 3-0: 26-24, 25-8, and 25-10. The Falcons earned 33 kills, eight service aces, 32 assists and 61 digs. Minyo led the team once again in kills with 13. Watson recorded 18 assists, which was also a team-high. Four Cedar Crest student-athletes were in double-figures in digs: Hoppes made 18, Minyo with 14, while Sanchez-Castro and Grapsy added 12 and 11, respectively.
Cedar Crest has secured the No. 1 seed for the Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship Tournament and will host the lowest remaining seed from the first-round winners in the semifinals on Thursday, November 4. The first-round features No. 3 seed Wilson College hosting No. 6 seed Bryn Athyn College while the other matchup has No. 4 seed Cairn University playing host to No. 5 seed Saint Elizabeth.
