ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College lacrosse squad hosted Wilson College in Colonial States Athletic Conference game on the FalconPlex this morning, where they fell to the Phoenix, 17-6. The Falcons record is now (0-2) overall and in the CSAC, as Wilson improved to (2-3) overall and (2-1) in conference action.
Wilson would waste no time getting into the scorer's column, scoring their first goal just over a minute into the game, but Cedar Crest would counter with one of their own two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. After that, the Phoenix scored eight-straight goals to before the Falcons netted their next one, trailing 9-2 with 11 minutes to play in the half. Both squads would score a goal in the final 10 minutes, with the Black and Yellow trailing 10-3 at the half.
The Phoenix would score three consecutive goals in the second half, but Cedar Crest would find the back of the net twice, to put the score at 13-5. Wilson would tack on three more before the Falcons' final goal of the contest was scored with three minutes to play. With the Phoenix adding one more with just a minute remaining, Cedar Crest would fall 17-6.
Four Falcons would contributed goals in the game, being led by senior Rhica-May Austin (Franklin, NJ/North Brunswick Township), who scored three times in the contest. Austin also won two draw controls and picked up a ground ball. Junior Sydney Heathcott (Newburgh, Ind./Castle High), sophomore Kailyn Jones (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly), and freshman Emily Schoelier (Newton, N.J./Sussex County Technical) each scored for the Black and Yellow. Heathcott and Schoelier scored a goal and recorded assists for two points apiece. Schoelier also filled out the stat sheet, earning seven draw controls and three ground balls, while Jones won three draw controls, caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Freshman Krystal Sears (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township) would record three caused turnovers and three ground balls, as freshman Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) grabbed two ground balls and cause a turnover in the contest.
Senior Allison Churchill (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) made her second start in net for the Falcons this season, making nine saves on 26 shots on goal. She also was credited with two caused turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Churchill received the loss in the decision, putting her record at (0-2) on the year.
Overall, Cedar Crest grabbed 15 ground balls, caused 12 turnovers and won 12 draw controls on the day. The Falcons finished going 2-for-3 on their free-position shots and 13-20 on clear attempts.
