ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College lacrosse squad suffered a 17-10 loss to Centenary University in Colonial States Athletic Conference play on the FalconPlex Thursday night. The Falcons fall to (0-3) overall and in the CSAC, as the Cyclones improved to (1-3) overall and in conference action.
Centenary would get on the board first, scoring three times before the Falcons got their first goal in the 8th minute. After that, the Cyclones scored five-straight goals before the Falcons netted their next goal, coming with two minutes remaining in the half. Cedar Crest would head into halftime trailing 8-2.The Cyclones would strike twice in the first minute of the second half, but the Black and Yellow would find the back of the net twice, to put the score at 10-4. Cedar Crest would allow another Cyclone goal before rattling off two more of their own, cutting the deficit to 11-6 with 23 minutes to play. Centenary would tack on four more before the Falcons' next goal was scored, setting the score at 15-7 with 16 minutes remaining. The Cyclones added another, then Cedar Crest scored back-to-back goals. Each squad would score one more goal in the final 10 minutes to get the final score of 17-10.
Three Falcons contributed goals in the game, led by senior Rhica-May Austin (Franklin, NJ/North Brunswick Township), who scored four times in the contest. Austin also won two draw controls, picked up two ground balls, and caused two turnovers. Junior Sydney Heathcott (Newburgh, Ind./Castle High) and freshman Emily Schoelier (Newton, N.J./Sussex County Technical) each scored three goals for the Black and Yellow. Heathcott grabbed two ground balls and earned two draw controls. Schoelier filled out the stat sheet, earning seven draw controls for consecutive games, was credited with three assists, and had caused a turnover. Sophomore Kailyn Jones (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) also got her name on the scorer's column, winning three draw controls and being credited for an assist. Freshmen Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) and Krystal Sears (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township), along with sophomore Alexandra Infante (Stowe, Vt./Stowe High), each picked up two ground balls and had caused a turnover, with Woomer also earning a draw control.
Senior Allison Churchill (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) made her third start in net for the Falcons this season, making double-digit saves for the second time this season. Churchill recorded 10 saves on 27 shots on goal. She also was credited with a caused turnover and picked up five ground balls. Churchill received the loss in the decision, putting her record at (0-3) on the year.
Overall, Cedar Crest grabbed 15 ground balls, won 12 draw controls, and caused seven turnovers. The Falcons went 11-21 on clear attempts and earned three free-position shots on the night.
