BRYN ATHYN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest Lacrosse team suffered a loss to Bryn Athyn College, 13-2, on Nelson Field on Thursday evening to open their 2021 campaign. The Falcons fall to (0-1) overall and (0-1) in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play, as Bryn Athyn improves to (2-1) overall and CSAC action.
Bryn Athyn would get on the board for the first time in the 10th minute, before adding four more to take a 5-0 lead, with 7:07 to play in the opening half. The Falcons would score their first goal of the season in the 27th minute, but would allow two more in the net before the half, putting the score at 7-1. The Lions struck just over two minutes into the second half, but Cedar Crest countered with a goal over a minute later, cutting the score to 8-2, before Bryn Athyn scored five unanswered goals to put the game at its final score of 13-2.
Cedar Crest had two goal-scorers in the contest, with the first goal coming for freshman Emily Schoelier (Newton, N.J./Sussex County Technical), who scored her first-collegiate goal in her first game donning a Falcons uniform. Schoelier scored on a free-position shot in the first-half, totaling four shots and won a draw control. Then sophomore Kailyn Jones (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) found the back of the net early in the second half for her first goal of the 2021 season. Jones scored on the lone shot she took, while picking up three ground balls, winning a draw control, and caused one turnover.
Seniors Madyson Lagano (Elkton, Md./North East) and Rhica-May Austin (Franklin, NJ/North Brunswick Township), along with freshman Krystal Sears (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township) all won a draw control in the contest. Lagano also contributed two ground balls, while Sears and Austin picked up one ground ball each. Junior Sydney Heathcott (Newburgh, Ind./Castle High) recorded two shots, with one going on net, and scooped up a ground ball as well.
Getting the start in goal for the Falcons was senior Allison Churchill (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford), who recorded 20 saves in the game. She also picked up six ground balls and caused a turnover. Churchill would receive the loss, putting her at (0-1) on the season.
Cedar Crest picked up 14 ground balls and took nine shots, with four going on goal, and two resulting in goals. The Falcons also had eight clears and five draw controls to end the game.
Cedar Crest returns to action on Saturday, April 10, when host Wilson College for their first game at the FalconPlex in 394 days.
