ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College volleyball team lost a pair of matches on Friday afternoon at the Buttermaker Tournament at Muhlenberg College.
The Falcons opened the day with a 3-1 defeat to Muhlenberg. Later in the day, Cedar Crest fell to Gallaudet by a 3-1 final.
Sophomore
Ava Grapsy (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) paced Cedar Crest with 24 kills on the day while freshman
Alexis Cummins (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) added 16.
The Mules came out of the gates quickly and topped Cedar Crest 25-15 in the opening set. The Falcons responded in the second with a 25-20 victory. The Mules took the following two sets to clinch the match in four sets and them 25-17 and 25-13, respectively. closed the gap throughout the match, however, falling 25-16 in the second set and 27-25 in the third. Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) finished with 25 digs.
Cedar Crest fell into a 1-0 hole against Gallaudet, dropping the first set 25-18. The Falcons evened the match at a set apiece with a 25-22 victory in the second. The Bison took the final two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-16 to secure the victory.
Grapsy registered a match-high 14 kills to go along with 13 assists and 12 digs. Hoppes finished with a match-high 26 digs while senior
Talia Watson (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) dished out 21 assists.
Cedar Crest (3-2 overall) will close out the Buttermaker Tournament on Saturday, September 11 with matches against Pitt. Bradford and Penn State Abington at noon and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
