ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team opened the 2022 season with a 20-6 loss to Wells College on Saturday morning in non-conference action at the FalconPlex.
Senior Mackenzie Powers led all scorers with eight goals to pace the Express offense. Sophomores Clara Lima and Julia Barnwell followed with four points each while sophomore Lydia Thomas and senior Olivia Maish finished with three and two goals, respectively.
Wells (1-4 overall) tallied the first four goals of the game en route to a 10-3 advantage by halftime. Powers netted four goals in the first half while Maish and Thomas each added a pair of scores.
The teams split the six goals scored in the third quarter, 3-3. Freshman
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) capped a hat trick for the Falcons with a goal 50 seconds into the frame. Sophomore
Hannah Collins (Howell, N.J./Howell) found the back of the net just over a minute later to cut the deficit in half, 10-5.
The Express outscored the Falcons, 3-1, over the remainder of the stanza and carried a 13-6 advantage into the final quarter. Sophomore
Emily Schoelier (Newton, N.J./Sussex County Technical) netted the last goal for Cedar Crest.
Wells finished the game with seven straight goals in the fourth quarter for the 20-6 final.
Sophomore Lauren Spiegel made 11 saves in goal for the Express in the victory. Sophomore
Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) finished with 10 stops in the cage for the Falcons.
Cedar Crest (0-1 overall) continues it season-long four-game homestand on Tuesday, March 22 against Delaware Valley University at 6:00 p.m. Wells will remain on the road for a contest at St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday, March 26 at 3:00 p.m.
