ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College softball team was swept by Rosemont College, falling 18-10 in game one and 10-4 in game two in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener on Saturday at Cynthia L. Blaschak Field.
Game One – Rosemont 18, Cedar Crest 10
Cedar Crest grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning on two-run homer to center field by graduate student
Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland).
The Falcons tacked on another three in the third to build a five-run advantage. Junior
Renee Snyder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) bunted in freshman
Alexis Kline (Allentown, Pa./Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter) for the opening tally in the frame. After an error and a hit by pitch, freshman
Alex Mullen (Prospect Park, Pa. /Interboro ) supplied a two-run single up the middle, plating senior
Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) and graduate student
Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola).
Rosemont got on the board in the in the fourth, scoring two. Senior Emily Bingman (Mifflin County, Pa.) crossed home on an error in right field and after a walk. Junior Gillyan Dewbrew (Exeter Township, Pa.) delivered a pinch-hit double to left center, bringing around Bingman to make the score 5-2.
The next half inning featured three runs from Cedar Crest. Santaniello connected on a two-run double to right, plating Tremblay and Kline. Santaniello would go on to score the final run of the inning, crossing home on a wild pitch to give the Falcons an 8-2 advantage.
The Ravens recorded two runs in the fifth, which came off a two-run homer to left by freshman Olivia Hamme (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), which made the score 8-4.
The teams traded a pair runs in the next inning. Senior Analisa Yoder (Belleville, Pa.) drove in two with a single while senior
Rachel Savini (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) had a base-knock up the middle, scoring VanBuskirk and Snyder as score was 10-6 in favor of the Falcons heading into the final inning.
Rosemont rallied to score 12 runs in the seventh, which came off of five hits and one error to give the Ravens an 18-10 score, the eventual final.
Myora Slaughter (Kansas City, Mo.) was credited with the win in relief for Rosemont. She threw the final 3.2 innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits. Slaughter also had five strikeouts and two walks.
Sophomore
Corinne Mundy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush) was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs on two hits.
Tremblay paced the Falcons at the dish, going 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Snyder (3) and Kline (2) also finished with multiple hits for Cedar Crest.
Game Two – Rosemont 10, Cedar Crest 4
Rosemont got out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning. Freshman Jade Gomez-Chavarria (Denver, Colo.) scored for the opening run of the frame. Lauren Begg and Yoder had back-to-back RBI doubles while Allison Goodman () singled in Yoder.
The Falcons cut into the deficit in the fourth on a two-RBI single from Snyder, which scored Santaniello and Tremblay.
The squads traded a pair of runs in the fifth to make the score 6-4. Tremblay contributed the Falcons' runs on a two-run homer to left field.
The Ravens put up one in the sixth and three more in the seventh for the 10-7 final.
Graduate student
Ashley Heller (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), Tremblay, and Snyder had two hits each in the nightcap for the Falcons.
Mundy (3-4 overall) was credited with the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits with one strikeout and one walk.
Cedar Crest (5-8 overall, 0-2 CSAC) will next host Widener University on Tuesday, March 29 in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
