Softball Cruises to Sweep of Clarks Summit

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College softball team cruised to a pair of victories over Clarks Summit University on Tuesday afternoon, winning by final scores of 11-1 and 21-1 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play at Cynthia L. Blaschak Field.

The Falcons pounded out 32 runs on 29 hits in the doubleheader.

Game One – Cedar Crest 11, Clarks Summit 1 (Five innings)

After Clarks Summit grabbed the 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Falcons responded with seven runs to gain control. Graduate student Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) tripled through the right side, scoring senior Rachel Savini (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) and junior Renee Snyder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland). In the next at-bat, Tremblay would come around to score on a misplay in the outfield. Senior Sophia Callari (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) drew a bases-loaded walk and then freshman Alex Mullen (Prospect Park, Pa. /Interboro ) was hit by a pitch with the bases chalked, which brought home freshman Alexis Kline (Allentown, Pa./Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter). An infield single and a sacrifice fly were the last two scoring plays in the frame to give Cedar Crest the six-run advantage.

The Falcons tacked on three more in the third. Snyder contributed a two-run double to left field and would later score on an error in the outfield to make it a 10-1 contest.

Snyder was back in the action in the fourth when she singled in Kline with a base hit to left field.

Snyder went a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish in the opener with four RBI and four runs scored. Savini, Tremblay, and senior Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) also registered hits for Cedar Crest.

Senior Lillian Boltz (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) picked up the win in the circle, tossing five innings. She gave up the one run on three hits.

Game Two – Cedar Crest 21, Clarks Summit 1 (Five innings)

The Falcons jumped out to a 14-0 lead after two innings in the nightcap.

Cedar Crest added five more in the third inning. Kline and VanBuskirk hit back-to-back home runs while Kristina Cagle (Pittsgrove, N.J./Arthur P. Schalick) crossed home on a fielding error to push the lead to 18-0. Freshman Anaya Duncan (Baltimore, Md. /Franklin) plated the last tally of the frame after she crossed
home on a misplay in the outfield to make it 19-0.

The Falcons tacked on a pair in the fourth and Clarks Summit got on the board in the fifth on an RBI single from junior Madelaine Pegula (Throop, Pa.).
