PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College softball team extended its winning streak to four games with 11-0 and 22-0 victories over the University of Valley Forge on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play at the UVF Softball Field.
Cedar Crest starting pitchers in senior
Lillian Boltz (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) and sophomore
Corinne Mundy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush) combined to allow only two hits on the day. The shutouts were the second of the season for Mundy and the first for Boltz.
Game One – Cedar Crest 11, Valley Forge 0 (Five innings)
An outfield error on a ball hit to left by junior
Brianna Lankford (Hanover, Pa./South Western Senior) gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Graduate students
Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and
Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) scored on the play.
Cedar Crest added one more in the second on an inside-the-park home run by
Reilly Mateljan (Friedens, Pa./Somerset Area) to make the score 3-0.
The Falcons tacked on four in the third. RBI singles by Lankford and senior
Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) gave Cedar Crest a 5-0 advantage while Mateljan delivered a two-run triple, bringing around VanBuskirk and freshman
Alexis Kline (Allentown, Pa./Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter) to make it a 7-0 game.
The Falcons pushed across another pair in the fourth to increase the lead to 9-0. Tremblay connected on a triple to drive in Santaniello. Lankford followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, sending Tremblay home.
Cedar Crest registered another two in the fifth to make the score, 11-0, the eventual final. Junior
Renee Snyder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) singled in Mateljan. Lankford then had a double, which scored senior
Rachel Savini (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy).
Boltz tossed a perfect game for the Falcons, not allowing a hit or walk over five innings. The senior also struck out four.
Valley Forge sophomore Laura Medio (Bear, Del.) allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits to go along with two strikeouts and a walk for the Patriots.
Santaniello, Lankford, Kline, VanBuskirk, and Mateljan recorded two hits each. Lankford added a game-high five RBI to her stat line while Mateljan supplied three.
Game Two – Cedar Crest 22, Valley Forge 0 (Five Innings)
Cedar Crest got one run in the opening frame when Tremblay singled in Snyder to give the Falcons the early 1-0 advantage.
The Falcons then exploded for 14 runs over the next two innings to build a 15-0 lead.
Cedar Crest then added two in the fourth. VanBuskirk singled in Tremblay while freshman
Anaya Duncan (Baltimore, Md. /Franklin) delivered a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing in Lankford.
The Falcons tacked on five more in the fifth, three of which were scored on RBI singles by sophomore
Kristina Cagle (Pittsgrove, N.J./Arthur P. Schalick) along with Duncan and freshman
Alex Mullen (Prospect Park, Pa. /Interboro ). Prior to the singles, senior
Rachel Savini (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) scored on a fielding error and later in the inning would draw a bases-loaded walk, bringing home Cagle for the 22-0 final.
Mundy secured the win in the circle for Cedar Crest. She only allowed two hits while striking out a season-high nine and walking just one.
Seven Falcons registered multiple hits in the nightcap. Tremblay and VanBuskirk each had 4-for-5 games at the dish while Kline and Savini each had three hits.
Cedar Crest (14-11, 9-3 CSAC) will return home to host Delaware Valley University in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 26 beginning at 3:00 p.m.
