ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team rolled to an 18-4 victory over Centenary University on Wednesday night at the FalconPlex in a non-league match-up.
The Falcons started quick with six-straight tallies. Senior
Emily Schoelier (Newton, N.J./Sussex County Technical) opened the scoring just 49 seconds in. The marker was set up by first-year
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township). Sophomore
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) found the back of the net under a minute later. Demarest got in the scoring action as she recorded a goal at the 11:45 mark, which was then followed by back-to-back strikes from Graham to push the score to 5-0. The teams then traded goals to close the quarter. First-year Trista Hough (Branchville, N.J.) scored for the Cyclones while Graham set up Schoelier for a tally with 10 seconds left to push the lead to 6-1 at the conclusion of the first frame.
The teams alternated the first four goals of the second stanza. Graham continued her strong game with her fourth goal of the game with 11:52 on the clock. Fifth-year Zaairah Lamothe (Newark, N.J.) netted her first of two goals in the quarter, which was then answered by a tally from sophomore
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon). Lamothe was able to score again with 9:01 to play, but Cedar Crest finished on 4-0 run on a pair of goals from Graham and one apiece from Schoelier and first-year
Brooke Holley (Elkton, Md./Elkton) to push the score to 12-3 at the break.
The Falcons went onto outscore Centenary 6-1 in the second half. Demarest deposited a pair of goals in the back of the net in the third while Schoelier had the other. Lamothe scored the lone goal for the Cyclones.
Cedar Crest then closed the contest on a 4-0 run on a goal from Demarest, a pair from sophomore
Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), and one more from Graham.
Graham paced the Falcons with a career-high eight point performance with a career-best seven goals and one assist. Demarest had five points on a hat trick and two assists. Schoelier finished with four goals. Sipel had three points on two goals and one helper. Holley and Jackson each scored once to round out the scoring. Lamothe guided Centenary with a hat trick.
Junior
Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) picked up the victory in her first appearance in goal this season. She made four saves in the triumph. Sophomore Chloe Neubauer (Hackettstown, N.J.) was tagged with the loss, making one save in 28 minutes between the pipes.
Cedar Crest tallied 17 ground balls in the game. Jackson had four, sophomore
Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit) registered three, sophomore
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) and Holley tallied a pair, while Graham, Demarest, Woomer, senior
Abbey Mower (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional), Schoelier, and first-year
Adriana Dias (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) finished with one each.
The Falcons also had 11 caused turnovers in the contest. Bilger, Large, and Jackson had three each while Holley and Woomer recorded one apiece.
Cedar Crest rounded out the box score with 15 draw controls. Graham grabbed a career-high 11. Demarest had a pair while Dias and Jackson had one each.
Cedar Crest (1-2 overall) continues its five-game homestand on Tuesday, April 4 against Ramapo College in a 4:00 p.m. start. Centenary (0-5 overall) will open conference play at Marymount University on Sunday, April 2 at 1:00 p.m.
