ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College softball team notched its fifth consecutive victory with a sweep of Cairn University on Sunday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader on Senior Day. The Falcons won game one by a 9-2 final and then pulled out an 8-5 triumph in the nightcap.

Game One – Cedar Crest 9, Cairn 2

Cedar Crest pushed one run across in the first inning on an RBI single to right field by senior Brianna Lankford (Hanover, Pa./South Western Senior). The base-hit scored classmate Renee Snyder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) for the 1-0 advantage.

The Falcons tacked on five more in the second to build the 6-0 lead. Graduate student Ashley Heller (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) started things when she singled through the right side to bring home classmate Rachel Savini (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy). Snyder then delivered a two-run single up the middle to plate Heller and first-year Laney Ferraro (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundations Charter). Cedar Crest added another pair on a base-hit through the left side, which brought around Snyder and Mateljan.

The Highlanders got both of its runs on a two-run double from junior Katie Fauske (Staten Island, N.Y.) in the fourth frame. The two-bagger plated seniors Jenna Kenyon (Clarksville, Md.) and Theresa Beck (Lansdale, Pa.).

The Falcons registered insurance runs in the home half of the fourth, scoring three times. First-year Natalie Hasert (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) contributed a two-run single to right field to plate Mateljan and Heller. Later in the frame, Hasert would come around to score on a double from graduate student Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) for the 9-2 final.

Junior Corinne Mundy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush) tossed a complete game in the circle to pick up the win for Cedar Crest. She gave up two runs on six hits while striking out five and walking two. The first strikeout of the contest marked Mundy's 100th of her career.

Mateljan led the Falcons at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Heller, Hasert, and Lankford also concluded the contest with multiple hits.

Fauske paced Cairn with a 2-for-3 performance at the dish, along with registering two RBI.

The initial scoring play in the first saw Mateljan scoring on a groundout from Hasert. In the next at-bat, Lankford connected on a single to right field to bring in Snyder. The last runs of the frame came by way of a two-run double to left field, which scored VanBuskirk and Lankford for the 4-0 score.

The Falcons plated three more in the second to build the 7-0 margin. Snyder drew a bases-loaded walk to score Ferraro for the opening tally. Heller then crossed home on a fielder's choice. The last run came when VanBuskirk singled to left center to bring home Snyder.

The Highlanders responded with three of their own in the fourth. Kenyon hit a double to right field to bring home sophomore Abbi Heacock (Media, Pa.) to begin the scoring.
