ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team fell to Wilson College by a final score of 17-1 on Tuesday night in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest at the FalconPlex.
The Phoenix got off to a quick start, outscoring the Falcons 7-0 in the first quarter. Sophomore Emily Young (Fairfax, Va.), junior Jill Ahlgren (Mercersburg, Pa.), and junior Anna Gibson (Cecil County, Md.) netted two goals apiece in the opening 15 minutes while sophomore Sage Lague (Fairplay, Md.) added the other to close the scoring column in the opening stanza.
Young and Gibson started the next quarter with goals, both assisted by sophomore Hope Sanders (Hanover, Pa.). The tallies stretched the lead to 9-0. The Falcons got on the scoreboard with a goal from sophomore
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna), which marked her team-leading 28
th goal of the season with 4:33 to go before halftime. Gibson and Ahlgren would each find the back of the net in the remainder of the frame to send Wilson into the break with an 11-1 advantage.
The visitors deposited six straight goals over the final 30 minutes to come away with the win. Ahlgren put three more home, Young added two, and senior Kelly Lepouski (Millville, N.J.) had one to round out the scoring in the game.
Junior Krystal Kienast (Purcellville, Va.) was credited with the win in goal for the Phoenix. She made one save in just over 50 minutes of action. Junior
Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) made 10 saves for Cedar Crest in the loss.
Wilson got eight-point efforts from Ahlgren and Gibson. Young followed behind with seven points. Lague and Sanders each turned in multi-point efforts with two apiece.
The Falcons had 11 ground balls in the game. Sophomore
Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) led the way with six. Sophomore
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) and first-year
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) each at two while Woomer picked up one.
Cedar Crest also had six caused turnovers. Sipel paced the category with three, Jackson added a pair, and sophomore
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) pitched in one.
The Falcons rounded out the box score with six draw controls. Graham was credited with a team-high four while junior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) was credited with two.
Cedar Crest (3-5 overall, 0-2 CSAC) stays home to host Eastern University in a non-league contest on Thursday, April 20 at 5:00 p.m. Wilson (9-3 overall, 2-0 CSAC) will return home for a conference tilt against Bryn Athyn College on Saturday, April 22 at noon.
