Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Finale to Eastern

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team fell to Eastern University in a 21-7 final in its non-conference finale on Thursday night at the FalconPlex.

The Eagles got off to a fast start, scoring five straight goals over a span of 5:41. Junior Teresa Gailey (San Diego, Calif.) netted the first marker at the 13:37 mark. Just 37 seconds later, senior Caitlyn Quizon (Philadelphia, Pa.) set up first-year Gracie Horton (Swedesboro, N.J.) for the next one. Gailey added another with 11:04 to go followed by Ellie Pruitt. Gailey finished off a hat trick when she put one home off an assist from junior Emerson Shauger (Hellertown, Pa.) to cap the run. Sophomore Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) went on a personal three-goal run to pull the Falcons to within two, 5-3, with just over a minute to play in the opening quarter. Horton got in on the scoring action when she scored with 38 seconds remaining to make the score 6-3 at the end of one.

Cedar Crest got the initial goal of the second stanza from the stick of first-year Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township). Eastern then deposited four-straight to extend the lead to 10-4. The teams traded tallies over the final 3:42. Graham registered her fourth of the game with 2:02 to play while Quizon found the back of the net with 1:21 on the clock to extend the score to 11-5 at the half.

The Falcons started the offense in the third quarter on a goal from Graham and assisted by first-year Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) with 12:23 remaining to cut the margin to five, 11-6. The Eagles then closed the frame with six-straight goals to extend the lead to 17-6 with 15 minutes to play.

For the third straight frame, Cedar Crest would score first on a marker from sophomore Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon). Junior Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) was credited with the helper. Eastern then closed the contest with four goals in a row to make it the 21-7 final.

Junior Annie Gough (Holly Springs, N.C.) earned the win in the cage for the Eagles, while making eight saves. Junior Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) recorded 12 stops for the Falcons.

Horton paced the visitors with nine points on five goals and four assists.

Cedar Crest got a five-goal game from Graham. Demarest added two points on a goal plus an assist. The final point came from Hinkle on a helper.

The Falcons had 15 ground balls in the game. First-year Brooke Holley (Elkton, Md./Elkton), along with sophomores Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) and Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) had three apiece. Woomer scooped up two while Jackson, Hinkle, Demarest, and first-year Adriana Dias (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) rounded out the category with one each.

Cedar Crest also had four caused turnovers. Sipel pitched in a pair while Demarest and Bilger each had one.

The Falcons closed the box score with nine draw controls. Demarest tied a season-high with seven while Graham had the other two.
